A collar that curls at the corner or a seam that gives out after the first wash usually isn't bad luck, and it isn't a lack of skill either. Most of the time it's the materials working underneath the visible fabric.

Muslin fabric is the test run. Cut and sew your pattern in muslin first, fit it on the body or a dress form, and catch the problems before they hit your real yardage.

Non-woven fusible interfacing is the built-in structure. Iron it to the wrong side of collars, cuffs, and waistbands and it holds its shape without adding bulk where you don't want it.

T27 polyester thread is what keeps construction seams together under stress. It's bonded for higher tensile strength, so seams that take real wear don't pop.

None of it replaces good technique. It supports it. Get the setup right and the finish follows.
