I think dining rooms are still incredibly important! They are a special place to have a distinct and meaningful experience…connecting with others in ways not possible elsewhere. While they still exist in some modern homes, dining rooms are now frequently absorbed by larger living spaces, such as the kitchen and the living room. Throughout history, though, keeping the dining room separate has had a major influence on human interaction and culture.
Designing the dining room for the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts is quite meaningful for me because it is an opportunity to restore emphasis to the importance of a dedicated dining space. Due to the size of the room, and the leeway that the square footage and high ceiling provide, I’ve decided to design the room according to three separate uses. All of which still nurture human connection from either side of a shared surface, but with changes to the dynamic depending on which area you inhabit.
Curious about the three areas and how I blended them into one grand room? Don’t miss the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts! It opens in April and you can find tickets in our Instagram bio.
