Well it’s all of 8* here so what better to do. Freeze in the garage working on these black walnut live edge shelves for the bathroom and make a beef stew. The Bauer surface conditioner is a beast at removing the bark after a little prep from the chisel. I’ll be using the brackets shown that I sourced off Amazon. The remaining cutoffs and the two planks that I haven’t touched yet will be turned into live edge cutting boards. I also have my first set of co****le boards in the works. Excited to see how everything turns out.

I finally had some time to get some work done on this beautiful board that’s been set aside for far too long. Now that I’m home I can start making more beautiful boards like this one. I believe someone will be very happy with this Christmas present they are about to get.

I had to get some finish shots of this batch. Out of the three that are available two have a double chamfer and a juice groove and one has a single chamfer with no juice groove. $175 each and will include a 4oz tin of my cutting board conditioner.

I finally had time tonight to get some more work done on this cutting board. I built a juice groove jig and went to town. I definitely recommend practicing on a scrap piece first. There’s a little bit of a learning curve. Did some finish sanding by hand and then hit it with my very own cutting board conditioner paste. Tomorrow I’ll add the feet and it’ll be ready for delivery.

A long time friend of mine picked up his coaster order yesterday. His friend recently bought a new house that has a beautiful black walnut bar in the basement and he thought these would be the perfect housewarming gift. I’d have to agree with him.

Just me heating up my Gearheart Industry thinking I should have bought the electric one 😂.

Putting in work today on my recent black walnut coaster order. I took these walnut cutoffs. Sent them through the planer. Squared them up on the crosscut sled. Ripped them in half on the table saw to get my desired thickness. Sanded them. Put a nice routered edge on them. Quickly put together a jig for my branding iron to get the same placement on each one. Then starting getting them finished with the General Finishes .

Finally got the 30* chamfer on my next batch of cutting boards. I can’t wait to finally get these finished up tomorrow.

Thanks to my newly squared crosscut sled I was finally able to trim these cutting boards to final size.

I wasted a lot of time and material with my crosscut sled. I removed and cut new guide rails for the slots in the table saw that fit way better. And then I removed the fence and sent it through the planer until all of the sharpie marks were gone. Then I fastened one edge and squared it to my blade and finish mounted it. Something I should have done when I built it in the first place. I originally put this shelf on the bottom of my work table for storage, but honestly for planing small pieces it works really well just leaving it there.

Idk about y’all. But I appreciate a fine bourbon at the end of the work day. And talk about the perfect moment to get a really nice shot of our walnut coasters. I already have an order for 12 of these and I can’t wait to get back to work on them. Winter weather coming in so the truck takes over the work area for the next few days.
