This primary bathroom was an important room in my client’s new house. And with any new build, it’s imperative to select materials that give the space character and that will age beautifully over time.

A playful nod to comfort and feeling at home, the tumbled limestone mosaic floor not only draws you in, but exudes a time-worn essence.

I love the natural beauty of the marble we selected for the vanity and shower bench, so we chose to honor the stone’s authentic qualities. Before the era of massive bookmatched slabs, artisans would patch together marble pieces to celebrate the stone’s irregularities and variations, with an emphasis on beauty over perfection. In this same spirit, the natural honing and variations of this bathroom’s marble are an integral part of the bathroom’s story and charm. Paired with reeded walnut and unlacquered brass, the vanity not only adds warmth and style to the space, but ample room for storage.

The shower was tiled with a Moroccan zellige which gave the space a moment of tranquility. And the iron door and sidelight was a design collaboration with a talented metal fabricator in Chicago.

The vintage light fixture, antique spindle chair and original artwork, really help to make this bathroom, a true extension of the home.

Final touches were the Japanese textile robes from my client’s favorite hotel in New York City. When we finished the project, I asked them jokingly, “Do you think you’ll ever want to actually leave?” To which they responded with a smile, “No.”

This primary bathroom was an important room in my client’s new house. And since it was a new build, it was imperative to select materials that help give the space character and will also age beautifully over time.

I was enamored by the beauty of the marble we selected for the vanity, and so we chose to honor the stone’s natural essence.
