OVERWHELM

This season I always experience a sense of overwhelm. We just got done with fair and the garden is in full harvest. The kids have gone back to school which adds to morning routines. Not to mention there's still milk to process, chickens to process and meat coming back from the butcher.
To top that off this year I booked every weekend in Sept with a fiber event. Its the perfect season for it, but just adds to the stress of it all.

I know this is only for a short time and will pass but in the moment it seems like a lot. So sometimes the milk goes to friends or get dumped onto the garden. The veggies get frozen for later even though theres absolutely no more room in the freezers for them and we continue on until it doesn't feel so overwhelming.

May your Sunday be blessed and you find peace if you're in a season of overwhelming.

On Tuesday. Yep the day after fair!!
Gavin shipped out to Fort Leonardwood Missouri for Ohio Army National Guard boot camp. Its going to be a long couple months before we can see him again, but we are so proud of him and the man that he is and is becoming.
This is truly one of the hardest things Ive ever done, but we know we raised a good man who will do well.

Heres just a quick fair dump of the highlights. Gavin showed his steers both feeders and fat. He also had broilers, ducks and a turkey. The broilers and ducks got call backs. And the ducks ended up in 5th place . We're just happy the turkey made weight!
Scarlett showed her chickens and pig.
Theo had a chicken entered for the cloverbud show and he actually went out there and stayed and showed it.
Mathias got to have his day on Friday night during the peewee sheep showmanship and mutton busting. A huge thanks to all of the jr fair kids who let these little guys borrow their sheep for this show. He didnt place in showmanship but he lived every minute of it. He did make top 4 for mutton busting though and wound up with a prize. So fitting since this will likely be the last year he's able to compete but we will see.

The kids animals sold well and we were able to get a group together to get Gavins last brown Swiss calf up to $12/lb.

My favorite part of the whole week though had to be the Beyond Barriers show. Theo got to go out and show a chicken and goat. I love this show!! And I'm glad that as a whole our county Jr Fair program meets each kid where they are at. Not just in this show ring but in everyone. I have absolutely no fear of my son being accepted because I know hes always included and this show just highlighted that.

I have been wanting to make these for a couple weeks. What a better week to make them than fair week!!?
They are smores pudding cups and have already gotten the approval of Theo. Although that might be because they have marshmallow fluff and chocolate chips!!

It may be just in my head but when I make stuff like this at home from scratch I tell myself its healthier than buying it.
Pudding is our cow milk and eggs. And the marshmallow fluff is made with beef gelatin and not corn syrup.

Also I told Ashleigh that the calories dont count if you eat it during fair week. The number of steps you put in daily totally negates any calories you may have consumed that day. 🤣

I decided tonight to make Queso Fresca. I grew some Habanda peppers and thought they would make a nice inclusion for this one.
Next it'll go to the press and be ready tomorrow.

Its the week before fair haul in. The carcass animals have all been dropped off and we have cooler evaluations on Wed and Thurs this week. I have lived an entire fair month and the actual week hasnt even started.
And Oscar is over here judging me because I let his food bowl get empty this morning.
I'll be needing a caffeine drip line and all of the patience for the next 2 weeks.

It is that time of the year again. We have 2 extra pasture raised hogs going in next month. Message me if you are interested in a half or whole pasture raised gmo free pork.
