Here’s the thing about custom work. It’s custom. Every detail of the piece is measured, inspected, moved around, stripped of fabric and padding, inspected again, staples removed (OH THE STAPLES!), springs tied if needed, padding replaced with new, fabric measured, cut, sewn, and applied to the piece, section by section. My goal is for my clients to love their pieces even more after I’m finished with them. I am a craftsperson and an artisan, and reupholstery is a trade.

“Fast furniture”, which is the majority of what is sold in the US, is made overseas. It is assembled as quickly as possible, as cheaply as possible, by people who are unfortunately probably not making a living wage. It is not expected to last more than a few years. It is expected to be thrown in the landfill and you will buy new again. See how that works? The company is out to make the biggest profit at any cost. I have seen literal cardboard in the backs of pieces that at the time I considered “high end”. My perception of brand quality was very wrong when I got into this.

I realize that custom reupholstery, custom cushions and soft furnishings aren’t for everyone. That’s completely fine. But just because you can buy a chair or cushion cheaper new, doesn’t negate the quality of what I produce. It’s apples to oranges in my mind.

I fell in love with this curvy chair! The photos don’t do it justice. My clients selected a black upholstery grade chenille and chose deep seams over the former buttons. Like I said, in LOVE!
