The Lowell Gallery

The Lowell Gallery Custom framing, art and prints since 1991 The original Lowell Gallery was in business from January 1990 to August 2014.

New management took on the torch in November 2014 and moved just two doors up the street to the corner of Central and Jackson. Custom framing is still our focus and we offer thousands of mouldings to choose from. Continuing in the footsteps of our predecessor, we still have one of the largest selections of Lowell art, maps, photos and books available for sale in the area. The Lowell Gallery also f

eatures an ever growing selection of fresh local and regional art and prints, as well as not-so-local selections for a diverse array of art to frame. Lastly, the Lowell Gallery offers a multitude of printing services to its customers and local artists, becoming one of the few one-stop shops for creators and consumers of art and framed works.

One of our earliest large projects was this oversized photograph of elephants in South Africa. To complement both the artwork and our customer's décor, we hand-wrapped the mat in a custom sage silk fabric upon which the print was floated, creating a look that felt both elegant and unique.

The project included delivery and installation to Boston's Seaport District, and our customer was thrilled with the result. We still do occasional delivery and installation on select projects today—and what once felt enormous now ranks among the smaller oversized pieces we've framed!

One of our customers brought this remarkable painting back from Peru, featuring the sacred Andean Trilogy of Inca mythology: the Condor representing the heavens, the Puma symbolizing earthly strength, and the Snake embodying wisdom and rebirth. At the center sits Machu Picchu, the legendary Inca citadel built atop quartz-rich stone believed to hold spiritual energy.

To complement the artwork, we used Gryphon Moulding to create a frame that looks as though jungle vines are wrapping around it. The final result feels both ancient and alive.

Art: Leonardo Cruz L. - Taller de arte / Cusco, Peru.

One of the greatest honors of our work is helping preserve the stories of those who came before us.

This project from our Andover Gallery shop was created in memory of Private First Class Marino "Marty" Filosi, who gave his life during WWII while defending his fellow soldiers under machine gun, mortar, and sniper fire. Serving with the 45th Infantry Division — the “Thunderbirds” — he took part in the invasions of Sicily and southern Italy, and was awarded the Purple Heart and a posthumous Bronze Star for his bravery.

On Memorial Day, we remember Marty and all those who gave their lives in service to others.

Who's ready for the FIFA World Cup next month? ⚽ Here are custom jersey shadowboxes we created (including one for Messi and another for Haaland) featuring artwork for each. Our customer wanted a rich bronze aesthetic, so we used bronze fillets, custom-painted bronze-look dowels, bronze mats, and a gray-blue linen liner throughout to tie everything together with an elegant finish. Don’t leave your favorite jerseys sitting on the bench. ⚽ Bring them in and let us put them in the spotlight.

We don’t always know where a project will lead, but creativity and craftsmanship help guide the way. This custom piece tells the story of a couple’s Midwest road trip through tickets, paystubs, and collected mementos placed atop our hand-drawn map of the states and provinces they visited. It took several sketches and plenty of experimentation to get the layout just right, but creating meaningful, one-of-a-kind designs like this is exactly why we do custom framing.

A visiting judge brought us this fascinating textile artwork featuring the robes of various Supreme Court justices layered over the Bill of Rights, including Ruth Bader Ginsburg's (can you spot it?). We floated the piece on white matting and paired it with a softly stained black wood frame rather than a solid opaque black, which would have overpowered the artwork. The visible wood grain complements the graphic quality of the piece while keeping the presentation understated and gallery-like. BTW, if anyone recognizes the artist, we’d love to give them proper credit.

Wedding season is just around the corner so it's a perfect time to turn meaningful pieces into lasting keepsakes. This bridal necklace and headpiece were brought back from a wedding in Kenya, and the craftsmanship speaks for itself. To let them shine, we created a clean “blackout” frame design that keeps the focus exactly where it belongs.

Today is Record Store Day, a day meant to bring together fans and lovers of music with their local record stores. Of course, we felt it was the perfect day to show off just a few of the many vinyl LPs, CDs and even concert posters we've framed over the years. We love working on them, so bring us some more!

Spring is here, and while we wait for our Dahlia pinnatas to bloom in late May, our customer gets to enjoy these beauties by Lili Arnold Studios all year. We often "float" artwork and objects in the frame in a way that expresses just how unique and precious something is. Being able to see the rough "deckled" edges on this hand-carved block print, signed and numbered by the artist, is evidence that the print is special. Bring us your precious art and objects, and we'll do the same for you! 🌸✨

We’re going to share one of our favorite custom framing projects from years ago. 🚗⚡ A customer brought in a script signed by Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, along with a real DeLorean logo and an image of Marty McFly and Doc Brown. We designed this as a true assemblage: part film history and part collector’s piece. Bonus question for our followers: Can anyone identify the mystery signature at the top of the script? 👀
