Nelly's Nest is in remembrance of our son who brought nothing but sunshine and smiles to all who met him. In May of 2021, the world was robbed of a beautiful and amazing young man. Donell was weeks away from his 17th birthday when he developed a fever. We decided to get him tested for Covid. Nelly was never sick, so of course, we were very worried. We took him on Saturday, May 15th. On Sunday, May

16th, we got back the positive results. Monday morning, May 17th, Donell stopped breathing at home. Mom performed CPR while Dad called 911. After everyone trying for over an hour, it was clear Donell was gone. As of 8am, Monday morning, our precious child was gone. These years since have been full of ups and downs. Finally, we are in a place that we would like to live a life creating and tributing the beautiful soul that Donell was. My two biggest regrets are, no one will ever get to meet him again and he won't be able to be as big as he was going to be. But hopefully, this is a small way to bring that light back. We hope these creations make you smile and feel loved every time you look upon them.

🐛Night Time Garden Watch at The Fitz with Local Astronomer Tim Brothers! 🔭
Thursday, August 6th | 7p - 8:30p | All Ages

We'll kick things off indoors with a short presentation about the benefits of "night work" in our ecosystem & our under-appreciated nocturnal insects such as moths and fireflies, learning about their contributions to a healthy garden. Then we’ll venture out into The Fitz's local pollinator garden & Monarch Waystation to observe nocturnal life in action!

Tim is the Observatory Manager at MIT’s Wallace Observatory and a co-founder of Dark Sky Massachusetts. He even has an asteroid named after him — (28992) Timbrothers!

Not a normal post for Nelly's Nest, but one that needs to be made. On May 17, 2021, COVID took an Integral part of my life away. Our son, Donell, caught COVID and within days he was gone. He did not suffer, he was not alone, it was quick. You've heard "in the blink of an eye" before? We lived it. Donell was bright, engaged, alive!, and within minutes he was gone. As his mother I don't share my loss with many. And maybe that's a disservice to him. Maybe it's my clinging to the last remnants of love and warmth that my son blessed me with. Either way, it's been 5 years, and not a single second gets easier. Some days it's down right crushing. But Donell deserves all the brightness and love we can give, even if he isn't here physically. So I make this post, in honor of the one who started everything good in my life. I love you Donell, I wish you were here with me. I'm doing everything I can to be with you again. I love you sassafrass, and miss you more than anything on this god forsaken rock. Keep watching over us, and reminding us that you're still here.
