🛠️ ASK MIKE: What’s the best flooring if you have dogs?
I get this question all the time.
And here’s the first thing I tell people:
There is no such thing as a dog-proof floor.
If somebody tells you there is, I’d be skeptical.
For a home with dogs, I’m looking at:
🐾 Scratch resistance — especially with bigger, active dogs.
💧 Water resistance — accidents and spilled water bowls happen.
🧹 Easy cleanup — because muddy paws are part of owning a dog.
👣 Traction — some floors can be pretty slick for older dogs.
But here’s the important part:
I wouldn’t automatically tell every dog owner to buy LVP.
Depending on your dogs, your house and where the flooring is going, a good laminate may actually be the better choice.
That’s why I ask about your family before I start showing you flooring.
The best floor isn’t necessarily the one with the biggest warranty or the highest price.
It’s the one that fits the way you actually live.

I’ll give you the same answer I’d give you standing in our showroom—even if that answer doesn’t result in a sale.
