Two Sisters Survived the Fiery I-27 Crash, but Their Lives Will Never Be the Same
LUBBOCK, Texas — Alexis and Aaliyah Wallace were simply traveling together Thursday evening when a wrong-way driver struck their pickup head-on along Interstate 27. Within moments, their vehicle was engulfed in flames and two young women with their entire futures ahead of them were left fighting to survive.
By God’s grace, both sisters made it out alive, but survival was only the beginning of what will be an incredibly painful journey.
Alexis, 28, is a United States Air Force veteran. She reportedly suffered a broken neck and both of her feet were shattered. She will need extensive reconstructive surgeries and may be unable to walk for a significant amount of time.
Her younger sister, Aaliyah, 19, is a Texas Tech student and scoliosis advocate who was balancing school with multiple part-time jobs. She suffered broken ribs and a shattered foot that will also require reconstruction. Because she does not qualify for paid medical leave, she is now facing the frightening reality of recovering without the income she depended on.
Two sisters who were once working, studying and building their futures are now lying in hospital beds, facing surgeries, rehabilitation and months of uncertainty. Their family is grateful they are still here, but the physical pain, emotional trauma and financial burden left behind by this tragedy are almost impossible to imagine.
A GoFundMe has been created to help cover medical bills, rehabilitation, housing expenses and other necessities while Alexis and Aaliyah are unable to work. Every donation, no matter the size, gives these sisters one less burden to carry as they fight to rebuild their lives.
