When my dad passed away, I gave everyone a pocket hugā€”a small reminder to carry a little love with them through the day.

On the anniversary of a friendā€™s loss Graci Welch, I made pocket hugs for her remembrance. She later asked me to create some for her support group, and I was honored to make them.

Each butterfly is unique and laser engraved with the words ā€œAngel Baby Pocket Hug.ā€ I hope these little keepsakes bring a bit of peace, comfort, and love whenever someone needs extra support. šŸ¦‹šŸ’œ

When the guys at work know you sew, a sticky note on your deskā€”and a follow-up emailā€”can only mean one thing: ā€œWe canā€™t find a cover that fits the new machine. Could you make one?ā€

Of course! I headed to the Sailrite | Fabric & Sewing Supply Store website and used their calculators to figure out the measurements. A little measuring, planning, and sewing later, and the custom vinyl cover fits perfectly. šŸ§µāœØ

I laser engraved this mini tool chest with a custom design bringing together Billā€™s love of the NFL Eagles and my love of sewing. The scrollwork tie it all together, with both our names engraved right on top. And itā€™s not just for showā€”itā€™s ready to keep those small tools organized, too!

Not bad for my first holster! This project let me try a little bit of everythingā€”from pattern making and laser engraving to sewing, hand stitching, burnishing the edges, and polishing. I definitely tested my skills, and I canā€™t wait to build on what Iā€™ve learned and see what the next one looks like. Most of all, Iā€™m happy my father-in-law was pleased with his new pocket holster!

My dream machine has arrived, so Iā€™m excited to learn how to use it in my bag-making process. The hardest skills Iā€™ve mastered are topstitching and sewing zippers. Both are integral to bag making, especially when you use contrasting thread. Zippers intimidated me when I first started sewing, but after many, many zippers, Iā€™ve become confident. Topstitching just takes patience and a steady hand. Itā€™s often one of the final steps, and after all that hard work, you want those last stitches to look just right!

One person who inspires me in the sewing community is Sara Lawson. Her videos were some of the first I watched when I started making bags. They helped me learn new techniques and gave me the confidence to tackle patterns I once found intimidating.

I love how generously she shares her knowledge. Every time I watch, I come away inspired and ready to get back to my sewing machine! šŸ§µšŸ‘œ

Give me vinyl, fun hardware, and a new pattern to try, and Iā€™m happy. I love that every bag can have its own personality, even when I use the same pattern twice. Plus, Iā€™d never run out of excuses to make another one! šŸ§µāœØ
