Here’s a little behind the scene’s from start to finish making one of my tiki mugs… well at least the design part of it! Bat Boy started off as an illustration of ghoulish kids trick or treating in the jungle, going from hut to hut!
I know we’re only halfway to Halloween but it’s become my favorite time of the year since having kids and seeing their imaginations light up from all the wonder and magic around the festivities!!
All my tiki mugs start off from a feeling or character idea, and get refined as you can see in the timelapse sketch, fixing wings, and features etc. I usually try to take into account design features so it can be mold friendly and tuck in any features that stick out and could be production issues. My first 10 years of making tiki mugs my wife and I made every mold so we learned a lot in those 10 years.
Once it goes to our sculptors, I usually have a few small things I adjust but for the most part, they get it spot on!
Then comes the glaze design and finding colors that match the overall feeling and style!
It’s a fun process that ends up taking months from original sketch to final artist proof mug in hand but it’s so rewarding especially when any of you love it!
Thanks for joining on this little behind the scenes journey of designing this Bat Boy mug!
Bat Boy and his crew of friends trick or treat the night away. They do things a little differently in the jungle… tasty libations are exchanged for treats from every jungle hut. The fun lies within the trick, but drink from this mug and you’re sure to get a treat!
Spooky cobwebs, moonlit nights, and you’re bound for an evening full of frights when you sip the spirits within.
Bat Boy’s crew of course is Pumpkin Head Kid, Pumpkin Cat, and Pumpkins and Patches!
