It’s a storybook way to live. I can imagine long evenings reading in bed with a cup of tea. Design: John Lawrence Upton

When renovating a historic house we like to combine the old with the new. Everyone wants modern conveniences but by using a reclaimed limestone floor from@exquisite surfaces we remained true to the home’s origins. The vanity and fixtures are Waterworks.

A kitchen should earn its square footage. This one had a small working area and no place for the family to sit. We kept the stainless refrigerators and used the $25k savings to create a retractable 10’ glass wall . We added a long white island with seating for six. Wide-plank oak underfoot, reclaimed wood shelves and black pendants give the room weight and add warmth but stay true to its roots. Design: Anne Carr Design

Had to post this amazing room because we went bold in our office in Jackson Hole. We wanted it to have a lounge area when the clients tired from sitting at the her desk. And why not add some whimsy with color?

A beautiful room and a considered one look similar at first glance. The difference shows up in the details. A brass fixture chosen to warm against cool marble, not just match it. A sconce placed to wash light across a wall, not just illuminate a mirror. A sleeping nook painted a color with enough nerve to feel like a decision, not a default. These aren’t details a client asks for. They’re the ones that make a space feel resolved rather than styled. What’s the detail in your own home you didn’t know you needed until someone added it? .com

Labor Day is when I actually buy for projects. Not one brand. The mix.

I sorted what’s on sale into four boards in my shop:

• Serena & Lily
• CB2 — Socca bench, Dover nightstand, Ridge desk, Muse glasses
• McGee & Co — Scaletta bench, Astrid ottoman, Dana console, Goodrich side table
• Also shopping — Caruso chair, AnthroHome Manta mirror + Manor side table, Jenni Kayne alpaca throw, Harper jute rug
