Tailoring our design eye for every client is at the core of what we do.

Our projects span everything from 1850s farmhouses and contemporary Manhattan apartments, to British influenced townhouses and mid-century lofts. The aesthetic might vary, but our steadfast approach to the work and love of design extend through every project.

Art is usually the first thing a client brings to the table (literally). A piece they have lived with for years, inherited, or collected long before they thought about the room around it. It is one of my favorite ways to start because it tells you immediately what someone responds to and what they are not willing to let go of.

Designing around existing art is a different exercise than sourcing it yourself. The room is built around it, not the other way around.

Designing this home gave me a lens I had never worked through before. Color and color theory are always central to how I build a mood, but here I got to learn from our client directly.

Researching her craft, studying her references, understanding how a film colorist thinks about pigment and what it does to a scene. The film Mon Oncle became required viewing. Jacque Tati’s use of primary color, witty and alive without ever feeling juvenile, informed every decision in this space. Bold color applied with a light hand, in a home that is anything but expected.

Some of the most personal homes we’ve worked on were built upon our clients’ very own collections: objects curated over years; pieces that meant something before there was ever a room to put them in. When the foundation is already there, the design opportunity is in finding the common threads that bring it all together.

In Jill Singer’s East Hampton home, that meant creating a palette of warm neutrals to unify a strong contemporary collection, adding vintage pieces for depth, and bringing in spa-like elements to ground the bedroom.

The rooms that get the least attention are often the ones people spend the most time in. Why should the living room be the only star of the show when you’re doing most of your living elsewhere? Consider your home office, the nursery, or that little nook beside the window that gets the best light in the house. Finding beauty in the mundane should never be an afterthought, which is why we put as much intention into those spaces as anywhere else.

Injecting some character back into this Williamsburg Schoolhouse was top of mind for this renovation. And to create that “lived in” look, you have to find materials that have (quite literally) lived somewhere before, each piece carrying a little bit of their own history with them.

We always look forward to going back to Berlin. Not just for family, but for the kind of work that only exists there. Historic buildings with bones you cannot replicate, small spaces that require real problem solving, and a level of craftsmanship and custom work that makes every detail worth the effort.

This landmarked 1903 apartment is all of that. Gut renovated for a family of four, with original molding, ornate doors, and arched ceilings intact, and every finish considered, paired with vintage pieces by Carlo Nason, Ingo Maurer, Karl Springer, and W***y Rizzo.

Having an outdoor space in New York changes how you live, and even more so in the summertime. At our Boerum Hill townhouse project, we considered the backyard and roof deck as much as any of the rooms inside. Bluestone and cobblestone hardscaping were grounded in the materials of the local neighborhood, and landscaping orchestrated by Brooklyn-based DESIGN | COMMUNITY | RESEARCH.

Designing for my own daughters meant the room had to be whimsical enough to spark imagination, but grounded in the same craft and Cotswolds-inspired story running through the rest of the house. Not to mention, it had to be built for small kids who needed real space to dream and play. (Now we wait and see if they inherit the urge to redecorate the moment they turn thirteen.)

This Bedford residence started with a question we come back to often: what’s the difference between redesigning with intention, and just plain old redecorating? The answer here was a mix we love (and return to often), balancing British countryside textiles and patterns with mid-century Swedish furniture pieces. One layered and exuberant, the other spare and considered. Think wool, wood, rush weaving, and antique paintings alongside design classics.
