During a recent trip to Indiana, we got to visit Jason’s alma mater, Grace College. He’s pictured here in front of his dorm.

Fun fact: Jason didn’t register for Grace intending to be an artist. He signed up as a math major with a computer science minor. But after the first semester, having a bent for art, he decided to try a drawing class and was immediately hooked. He switched his major to graphic design, but kept the computer science minor.

The combination of the two was perfect as the internet exploded in the mid nineties. Jason took the college’s first intro to html class, then taught himself the rest. Website design and web programming were his bread and butter for the decades that followed, and he’s still creating sites to this day.

One of our favorite days of the year is the Kids Cookie Break Fest! We’re excited to bring our Cissy and The Man show there again this year, alongside a roster of wonderful local musicians and performers. We can’t say enough about our Junior Designer, Aliyah White, who has been working alongside us for the past year. A recent Manheim Central School District grad, Aliyah came along and impressed us with her natural abilities. She helped us with a couple mural projects, retail creations, professional illustrations, and much more. And the piano on Manheim’s Market Square? She did the bulk of the work on that.

Now she’s off to college and we’re going to miss her tons. But we’re super proud of her and can’t wait to see her hone her skills even more. Apart from her family, we’re her biggest fans. Thank you, Aliyah, for your friendship and for sharing your gifts with Horst Arts!

Yesterday we had a joyful visit from ten children who are part of the Ed Mattei Foundation (Ed Mattei Foundation). A few parents came along and helped as the young folks created Junk Journals in our Manheim studio.
