Thank you, Jaime, for the opportunity to work on your kitchen cabinets! Jaime tinkered cabinet colors for a long time and landed on a creamy white to match the fireplace on the opposite end of this space. It looks fantastic! The new, modern pulls are great jewelry and I’m excited to see her new countertops when they arrive.

Thanks, Jeff, for the opportunity to work on your kitchen cabinets! Jeff has been making his way around this home, as he has time, and has completed a lot of upgrades. Like many, he drew a line at painting the kitchen cabinets. I’m not a professional but I hope my “clients” are happy with my work. The paint and upgraded hardware went a long way in this kitchen!

Much to finish and touch up but I’m so excited about the exterior work accomplished this week on this building! I was back and forth over whether or not to keep the window trim a different color or if I should modernize this historic building a bit more by blending it right in with the siding. Super pleased with the result!! Maybe someday that roof will get painted 🤔… (The interior photos of this place are posted below.)

It’s been a fun summer! Sherwin Williams officially calls me a “painting pro” after all of my trips to buy more paint as I made my way around the family farm to paint the buildings. My father in law raised me in the skid loader bucket to reach the higher points and when that wasn’t high enough, we finally rented a lift. It was a lot more time with him than normal and I loved it. He opened up and shared some farm and family history during our travels that maybe I wouldn’t have heard direct from him otherwise. He even rode in the lift with me at one point to enjoy the Birds Eye view of the farm. We used the chicken barns as inpso for our paint colors and he told me to make the choices once I got started. Then I painted the car garage in that dark “iron ore” which he admitted was too dark for his liking and then I lost my privilege of choosing colors. 😉😆😆

It was nice to “work” side by side with my husband, too! He helped me with moving ladders and moving my extension cord when I was up in the lift. He was generally just “there” when I needed him. 💜 Next Spring I’ll work on doors and roofs, etc., but glad to call this one a wrap for now!

Another kitchen cabinet before/after. This was a friend of the family. Beth and her husband hired me to paint their cabinets and it turned into painting most of the house while they were on vacation! 😆 I love how the white paint and new floors really brightened the space.

My mom and I worked together on painting her kitchen cabinets a few years ago. (Just catching up on sharing a few “jobs.”) I love how her kitchen turned out. Her cabinets are solid, Amish-made oak cabinets and are almost 40 years old! The oak, however, had turned a little orange-y over time and she was ready for a fresh look. She choose white on the uppers and light gray on the lowers. She updated her countertops and backsplash, a few appliances and eliminated her wall oven, replacing that space with a recessed pantry (not shown).

Occasionally, I still enjoy flipping furniture, if I find myself inspired by a piece. This buffet was a marketplace find. I've gotten away from distressed, farmhouse type looks and more into trendy black and wood toned looks. I sanded down the drawers and doors on this piece but didn't love the red Mahogony wood under the shellac so I used a light colored gel stain instead of a regular stain. I didn't get the result I had hoped for, but I do still like the way it turned out-especially with the new brushed gold jewelry.

And the final post for this reno includes the master bedroom and a bathroom, neither of which was much more than new paint and lighting, and of course, the most fun part, bringing furniture and decor into the spaces. (And, oh yes! I did put new flooring in the bathroom and laundry room.)

There were two doorways into the bathroom; one unfinished, as though the previous owner had a plan for it but just didn't get around to it. I found this incredible, custom built shelf on marketplace that thrilled me to no end! It was exactly what I was looking for and I drove nearly an hour to pick it up. I tucked that in the unfinished doorway and trimmed around it. What a game changer for storage in the bathroom!

The back of this shelf sits in what will be the laundry room. I painted it black and added wood pieces and some hooks to look like a slat wall, but once I get a washer and dryer in there, will be great for hanging clothing.

Finally, the master bedroom...I also found the vanity in here on marketplace and I had intended to use it in the attic to help block the HVAC unit. However, this massive beauty is 100" long!! It didn't work. I'm glad -because having it on display in this bedroom is more fitting. I love the windows/lighting in this room. Again, it's so inviting; I just want to live here. :-)

Another continuation from my posts this morning:
At the foot of the new staircase there had been a closet between the kitchen and living room and another wall between the hallway and kitchen. I believe it was used by what had been a salon and there was NO kitchen. By removing those walls I was working with a pretty open floor plan!

I had never had an opportunity to put a whole kitchen in, and it was a challenge! I learned that in the 1800s when the building was built, not everything was squared up and the flooring tilts a bit. :-) Fortunately, this is just a small apartment kitchen with only a few cabinets and I had fun finishing it up! I just put the subway tile in about two weeks ago and again, I'm obsessed with it and the black grout.

The living room was fairly simple: some new paint, new ceiling fan/ light combos, and then furniture that I had accumulated over time. The decor and "feel" of this place is much different from my normal farmhouse vibe. I keep joking that I want to live HERE. I find it very inviting.

Continuing from my previous post with the attic reveal:
The new staircase to the attic was stacked on top of another staircase that leads to a commercial space on the first floor. In order to make the second floor and attic more private, I elected to wall off the stairs leading to the first floor. I've added more decor since these photos were taken, but again, I find myself obsessed with this color. It was simply white with NOTHING on it before, so to walk in and see it elevated in this way, I catch my breath each time. :-) I also changed out lighting fixtures in this hall, added a door at the top of the original staircase (for privacy) and removed walls at the far end that had been a closet and a walled off kitchen space...

This morning I woke up and realized that projects I've been working on over the last year were finally "complete," and I wasn't sure what my week ahead held! I have another property I'll begin freshening up (and of course our own home needs some spring sprucing), but THIS week...🤷‍♀️

So I finally sat down to share some photos of my latest project. The biggest change here was removing the pull-down ladder to the attic and adding a full staircase, so I'll start the posting with this renovation. (The staircase build was NOT something I tackled on my own! I hired my childhood friend, Grube Carpentry, to complete this for me.) This space really began to take shape nicely. I wasn't sure about painting the shiplap but in the end decided there were too many wood tones happening so I began by painting it white. I tacked some whitewashed skid lengths between the beams (hiding the plywood ceiling) and then laid new LVP flooring. The color of the flooring is called "akadia" and I'm obsessed with it. I've used it in multiple places-including my own home.

The biggest question mark I had for the attic was somehow hiding the HVAC system and duct work that filled an entire end cap of the space, without losing the light from the windows. I started by building a wall; my vision being that it would act as a headboard on one side and a walk-through closet on the other. I left it at that for months but as I began finishing up the home in the last week or two, I wasn't pleased with the end result, so I built more walls/panels that are removable so that the system was still accessible but that it also provided some protection for the unit. I think eventually I'll box around the duct work on the ceiling but for now, I painted it white.

I installed new lighting/ceiling fans and railing around the staircase and then buttoned it up by trimming it out and of course, the most fun part- getting it set up! There's always room to change some things and add some additional decor, but for now, I'm calling it complete!
