Hello everyone! I'd like to show you some of the results of the end of the semester's Raku firing. First, a little bit of info about what Raku firing is:
The history of Raku dates as far back as the 16th century.
In raku firing, all of nature's elements are used, earth, fire, air, and water. The earth is used to make the pot, then it's put into a reduction chamber kiln, then plunged into water. The cold water halts the firing process. A lovely fact about raku is that its name literally translates as 'happiness in the accident'.
I had a lot of fun during the firing and I'm very pleased with the results. I'm very excited to share them with you and see what you all think!
If you are at all interested in this form, I encorage you to look into George Ohr's work! I was very inspired by him. I was very sad to find out that not many people have tried to follow his work as it's very hard to find twisted forms like his these days. And so far I have not come across a single large twisted vase like mine for sale anywhere. I plan on continuing this form for a good while so I'm excited to see what's in store!
I am selling these but they will be at a very high price as it took alot of work to make all of this happen. I'm going to price this one at $200. I'm not sure what I'm going to price the second one as of yet, or what they would be priced if bought together, as it took me 3 whole semester's worth of work to get the shape right and to make the glaze look like this.
If anyone interested has an offer for both of them that fit's the price of the work I will gladly consider it!
