Some photographs of the kitchen at one of our projects.
Like many homes in the area, this house was built in the 1920s, with a back extension likely added in the 1980s. The addition created a bright, spacious room, but came with quite a few design challenges: various ceiling and opening heights, oddly placed windows, and a layout that awkwardly combined a living room, laundry room, and half bath. These issues made the space difficult to furnish, and the original kitchen was left in a passageway.
To create a cohesive, graceful layout, we reimagined the entire space. We relocated the kitchen to the back, transforming the extension into an open, family-friendly kitchen and living area while converting the former kitchen space into a convenient (and cheerful!) powder room and laundry. Our goal was to blend the extension with the original house so it felt like it had always been a natural part of the home.
To bring it all together, ceiling heights were aligned, the narrow moldings were replaced to match the home’s original ones. The floors were carefully patched, sanded, and re-stained. New windows, discrete recessed lighting, custom cabinetry, and beautiful fixtures complete the look. We’re delighted with the transformation—the space feels at once bright, cozy, elegant and entirely family friendly. It was a gift to work with our wonderful clients who love color and appreciate intricate details as much as we do. We’re immensely grateful to them for trusting us with their home.
