One of the most common questions we hear is:
"Can you add more wood flooring to what I already have?"

The answer is often yes — but first, we need to play flooring detective.

Before we can determine the best match, we'll try to answer a few important questions:

✔️ Is it prefinished or site-finished?
✔️ Do you know who made it? (Manufacturer) What style and color is it?
✔️ How old is the floor?
✔️ Is it solid hardwood or engineered hardwood?
✔️ What species is it (oak, hickory, maple, etc.)?
✔️ How wide are the planks?
✔️ How thick is the flooring?
✔️ Is it still being made?

Here's something many homeowners don't realize: even if we identify the exact manufacturer, style, and color, an exact match is rarely possible. Wood is a natural product that slowly changes color as it ages and is exposed to sunlight. It also develops its own wear pattern over time. A floor installed today next to a floor installed years ago will almost always look slightly different.

In many cases, we can get very close. If a seamless, perfect match is important, the best solution when possible is to install the new wood and then refinish all of the connected flooring together. That allows the old and new sections to be sanded and stained as one continuous floor. (Not all wood can be refinished.)

If you're thinking about extending hardwood into another room, bring us a few photos and, if possible, a leftover plank. You might be surprised how much information we can uncover from a single piece of flooring.

Thinking about adding more wood floors to your home? Stop by Enhance Floors & More and let our flooring detectives get to work!

Why Is LVP So Popular?

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) has become one of the most popular flooring choices in America—and it's easy to see why.

Today's LVP offers the realistic look of hardwood, stone, and even tile, without many of the concerns that come with natural materials. It's durable, easy to clean, and holds up well to busy households with kids, pets, and everyday life. Most styles are also spill-resistant, making them a great choice for kitchens, living rooms, hallways, and more.

Homeowners love the huge variety of looks available. Want the warmth of oak hardwood? The elegance of marble? Wide plank European white oak? There's an LVP style for that.

Compared to hardwood or ceramic tile, LVP is often more budget-friendly, quieter underfoot, and typically faster to install.
No flooring is perfect for every home, but if you're looking for a combination of style, durability, and value, it's no surprise that LVP continues to be a customer favorite.

✨ Hardwood looks. Tile looks. Real-life durability.

Stop by our showroom and see why so many homeowners are choosing LVP for their next flooring project! 🏠🐾👣

What in the World is Mahjong... and Why is Everyone Suddenly Playing It? 🎲

If you've noticed your friends gathering around colorful tables with beautiful tiles, you're not imagining it—Mahjong is having a major moment!

Mahjong is a tile-based game that originated in China and combines strategy, skill, and a little bit of luck. Think of it as a mix of cards, puzzles, and social time all rolled into one. While the game has been around for generations, it's exploded in popularity thanks to social groups, colorful tile sets, and the fact that it's a great way to connect with friends.

So, if you're thinking about creating the ultimate Mahjong space at home, here's what you'll need:

✨ A table large enough for four players (a round or square table works great)
✨ Comfortable chairs for those marathon game sessions
✨ Good lighting so everyone can easily see their tiles
✨ Storage for tiles, racks, scorecards, and accessories
✨ A drink station nearby—because Mahjong and snacks just belong together
✨ Durable flooring that can handle chair movement and plenty of foot traffic

Many homeowners are turning spare bedrooms, bonus rooms, sunrooms, or even finished basements into dedicated game rooms. A warm, inviting space with easy-to-clean floors makes hosting Mahjong nights even more enjoyable.

Whether you're a seasoned player or just curious about the craze, Mahjong isn't just a game—it's an excuse to gather, laugh, and make memories.

There are many factors that go into deciding between engineered and solid wood floors. Here are just a few things to consider.

The wider you go, the more unstable the wood, so it’s usually best to choose an engineered product when installing wide plank floors. Once you go over 6 inches in width for Hickory and Maple in most environments, and 8 inches in width for all other domestic species, floors must almost always be engineered otherwise they will bow and cup.

Unlike solid wood floors, engineered floors can be installed in below grade conditions such as basements.

The species matters too. For example, species like Maple and Hickory are recommended for installation in only engineered in high relative humidity environments.

High relative humidity, especially when left uncontrolled, can spell disaster for wood floors because they are hygroscopic, meaning that they absorb and release moisture based on the temperature and humidity of the environment.

Engineered floors are also much easier to install over concrete slabs. There’s more stability within the wood and less chance of bowing and cupping.

The success of the floor ultimately depends on the client controlling RH and temperature according to NWFA standards. If the conditions of the environment go too far in either direction, the wood will react by cupping, bowing, splitting out, and more, even if it’s a well-made engineered product.

As you can see, going with an engineered product is almost always the safer option. Luckily, many of the engineered hardwood floors that we represent look almost indistinguishable from solid wood floors, so they will be sure to wow you.
