Dear Friiends,
Twenty four years ago today, about 2 hours ago, our lives changed forever. At our Little Quilts store, a week later we reached out to our email list of only 500, at that time. We asked them to make a small patriotic quilt not bigger than 24” square. Friends forward the email to friends across the country, even to Norway. We received over 2200 quilts and displayed them in our parking lot. The Marietta Fire Department photographed the quilts, shown in previous year’s posts. Alice: Sylvia, and myself felt it was the best outreach project we ever organized at the store. The quilts were sent to fire departments and police departments in New York and New Jersey, to be distributed to the families of the firemen and policemen that perished that day. Shown today is my “Land of the Free Quilt” that I started in January 1999 in a class I took at LQ with Anne Anderberg, our renowned hand appliqué teacher. The label says I completed the binding on that infamous day Sept 11, 2001. Besides hand Applique, I also hand quilted it with wool batting. It’s probably my favorite quilt!❤️ My partner and best friend Alice, has been teaching watercolor to our Stitch In Group. That’s my “Flag and Flowers”, I did in her class! Now, more than ever, our country needs our prayers🙏. God Bless The USA, 🇺🇸
