Dear Friiends,
Twenty four years ago today, about 2 hours ago, our lives changed forever. At our Little Quilts store, a week later we reached out to our email list of only 500, at that time. We asked them to make a small patriotic quilt not bigger than 24” square. Friends forward the email to friends across the country, even to Norway. We received over 2200 quilts and displayed them in our parking lot. The Marietta Fire Department photographed the quilts, shown in previous year’s posts. Alice: Sylvia, and myself felt it was the best outreach project we ever organized at the store. The quilts were sent to fire departments and police departments in New York and New Jersey, to be distributed to the families of the firemen and policemen that perished that day. Shown today is my “Land of the Free Quilt” that I started in January 1999 in a class I took at LQ with Anne Anderberg, our renowned hand appliqué teacher. The label says I completed the binding on that infamous day Sept 11, 2001. Besides hand Applique, I also hand quilted it with wool batting. It’s probably my favorite quilt!❤️ My partner and best friend Alice, has been teaching watercolor to our Stitch In Group. That’s my “Flag and Flowers”, I did in her class! Now, more than ever, our country needs our prayers🙏. God Bless The USA, 🇺🇸

We’ll always remember that 23 years ago today, America was changed forever. As quilters, we wanted to do something to help. Because of generous quilters, more than 2200 small quilts were sent to families of fallen policemen and firemen. At Little Quilts, we laid them in our parking lot and the Marietta Fire Dept sent a truck so they could be photographed….. postcards were printed and sent to the makers. We are most proud of this undertaking! We will never forget!

Another year to remember “We will never forget”…..that fateful day 22 years ago…. When more than 3000 Americans sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Over 2200 quilters from around the world sent small quilts to us at Little Quilts to send to the families of police and firemen that gave their lives. The quilt were displayed in our parking lot. Patriotic quilts have always our favorites!

We will never forget the generosity of quilters around this great country that responded to our request for small quilts 21 years ago. More than 2200 little quilts were sent to the families of fallen policemen and firemen after the attacks on 9/11. We laid them out in the parking lot of Little Quilts. “Celebration”, made by Alice Berg commemorates the greatness and resilience of our country!
God bless everyone.

Happy Valentine’s Day! A favorite holiday at Little Quilts!❤️

Today, we all remember the attack on our freedom twenty years ago that happened Sept 11, 2001. We all remember where we were that day. We are still most proud of our project where we emailed quilters all over, and asked for small quilts. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of quilters and received over 2200 small quilts, displayed them in our parking lot; then sent them to the families of police and firemen who were lost in the tragedy. Some are shown here that appeared in our book “Patriotic Little Quilts”. Almost everyone know someone who was lost that tragic day. May God Bless America.

Today we remember where we all were on Sept. 11, nineteen year ago this morning. Thanks to more than 2000 of you, we were able to send 2200 little quilts to the families of the police and firemen who gave their lives that day. This wonderful tribute is one of the things we are most proud of during our 20 years, at Little Quilts. May God Bless all of you and God Bless America.🇺🇸 The article below was published in American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine in Feb 2002.

Dear Friends, I hope you are all staying home, staying safe during this trying time. Times like this, as during 9/11; quilters rallied round and started seeing small quilts. Now many are sewing masks to help health care workers to protect their N95 masks for longer use. I know we all have “stashes”. My daughter in law, and ICU nurse, said they can use scrub hats to cover their hair. I’ve made 20, given them to her. She said her unit loved the little bit of fun or whimsy the hat added to their uniforms. How about making a mask or some hats, while working on all those UFO’s!! Here’s a pattern and video I found easy to follow! If you’re in the Marietta GA, and would like to make scrub hats for her ICU unit at Kennestone Hospital, you can email me at: [email protected]. We’ll figure out a place to drop them or get them to me. I’d post a picture of some I’ve made.... but you know how lo-tech I am!! I’ll have daughter or granddaughter show me how! Wash your hands, stay home; we’ll get through this together.....God Bless America!

On this day we remember, and all recall where we were, 17 years ago; when our country and freedom was attacked. Our strength and resilience as a country is shown everyday! Quilters display their patriotism, and love of the USA in their homes with patriotic quilts, table mats, and more. The eagle is a symbol of strength for the United States. “Celebration”, was made by Alice Berg, in 1996, inspired by an antique quilt. In a previous post you can see the response from over 2000 quilters around the world..... when they sent us small quilts, that we sent to families of police and firemen who were the first responders on that terrible day. May God continue to bless us all.🇱🇷
