When Tyler from reached out and asked me if he could send some yarn my way I absolutely jumped on this opportunity. There’s been a blanket I’ve had in my head since the Spring of ‘23 and I’ve been waiting and waiting for the right time and right yarn to show itself to me. This is it. 🥰 There’s been a lot going on in my life and I’ve hardly picked up my crochet or knitting projects since the end of February, but THIS. This is exciting. Can’t wait to dive into this yarn and show you all what I’ve got in my head.

Whoops! I kind of vanished from IG for a month. Truth me told, there’s just been a lot going on and I was also dealing with a ton of pain in my thumbs that came out of nowhere. But I made this adorable carrot friend the other night and I’ll be releasing the pattern for him in a day or two. My five year old freaked when he saw it and he’s been carrying it around the whole day. 🥕🐰

Let’s chat. You might recognize these socks. Nope, I’m not making a second pair. I ripped my first pair completely out and I’m starting again. I THOUGHT these fit when I finished them. Then I quickly realized they were huge. Not in length, but in width. I’ve knit several pairs of socks up to this point and really assumed that since I was using the same needle size and same yarn weight that I’ve used in the past that I could just pick my size from this designer and go.

🚫 WRONG ❗️🚫

According to my measurements for this designer I should have chosen the size large. I was trying to figure out how these could have gone so sideways when the obvious dawned on me. Gauge. So I checked these socks AND all previous socks. My gauge was 8.5 stitches per inch with a US 1 needle. Then I checked hers: 9.5 stitches per inch. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Knitting tighter isn’t going to work for me. I then figured out that she must be calculating her cast on number by multiplying her gauge x 7.5 inches, which would make me a large in her gauge. So I calculated MY gauge by 7.5 inches and I come out to a size medium, the cast on stitches are a close match to all my other socks, and these are looking LOADS better.

So my point is: don’t blindly think that just because a designer is using the same needle size as you have used many times before with the same size yarn that you’ve used before that the sizing matches. Make yourself a note as to what your stitches per inch are in all other projects in that yarn and needle size so that you don’t find yourself ripping out fully finished socks 🧦 and re-knitting them 🫠😂

Honestly though - this was a really great learning experience and I’m not mad about having to knit these again.

Two squares and a border. That’s all this blanket has needed to be finished. Today is the day! 🖤

My stack of half and half crochet granny squares that I got finished up on Tuesday ✌🏼✨ First Crochet Quilt Block is almost completely seamed together. I’ll share it when it’s finished!

If you’ve been around for awhile you may remember in 2024 I designed five crochet blankets for - I had some really amazing sample makers that made all of the blankets after I designed them. But not having those blankets physically is just…WEIRD! 😂 I have all the yarn to make them and so, of course, sticking to my plan of finish what I started and use what I have, I’m getting the ball rolling on my first of five - the Supernova Blanket. I’m going to be making a few slight adjustments to my own blanket and I’ll make note of those here and on the patterns themselves as I go along.

✖️ The first adjustment I’m making is that I am using a G+/4.5mm hook. This is going to result in slightly (SLIGHTLY) smaller squares, but I’ve been working with small hooks for awhile and my hand doesn’t like 5mm right now. It somehow feels huge. Also, G+ or probably my favorite hook size in general.

✖️ Two: I’m switching a few colors for mine. Originally I was REALLY set on using “Pucker” (Swish Worsted) in my design, but there was outside opinion that “Throne” was the right way to go. Well - I’m going with my original color choice for my own blanket and we will see how it comes out! I’m excited and Obsessed with Pucker (this hot pink).

✖️ Another color switch. Originally I wanted “Frosting” but “Blossom Heather” was chosen instead. I actually do not even have that color in my stash since my original choice was Frosting, so I’m going with that and I’m definitely not disappointed.

I plan to get Square 1 done for February. One square a month should get all squares finished by October and then I’ll work on attaching them all to each other in November. Taking this project slowly will make room for me to fit in other projects that need finishing, starting, or redoing. 🥰
