What have I been up to? Writing and beginning to post on Substack. Please join me for design, life, and musings. My latest post: The Quiet Work of Peace

The Quiet Work of Peace There’s a kind of presence that doesn’t announce itself. It doesn’t raise its voice, and it doesn’t need to win the room or ask for attention. And yet, over time, it’s often the one that changes everything. I’ve been noticing the difference between noise and peace...

Our last newsletter of the year is out, and I’m genuinely grateful for this community.

As we move into the new year, I’ll be focusing more on the newsletter and our website—creating a quieter, more thoughtful space and clearing away some of the noise and clutter. I’ll still be here on social, just more intentionally.

January isn’t far away, and I’d love for you to stay connected—there’s a meaningful shift coming in 2026.

You can subscribe at any time using the sign-up block on our website.

One of my favorite ways to slip into the holiday spirit is by attending local home tours, especially those tucked into historic neighborhoods and dressed to the nines for the season. I’ve had the privilege of designing for clients in older homes, and they hold a special place in my heart. Being a ...

Twenty-nine Years in Design

Twenty-nine years ago, on one fateful August day, I took a leap into what would become a journey filled with many hats: entrepreneur, marketer, bookkeeper, counselor, toter and fetcher… and somewhere in there, an interior designer!

If a book was ever written about this adventure, I imagine it would be filled with snippets of humor. While I take the work very seriously, I’ve learned that a wicked sense of humor goes a long way — and perhaps that’s what surprises people most.

There’s so much I could say about this long and rewarding path, but I’ll keep it short with a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of it. Your trust, encouragement, and friendship have made all the difference.

In the coming months, I look forward to a season of “rewiring” — shifting gears, exploring new directions, and carrying forward the heart of what I love most. I’ll be sharing more about that path soon.

Warmly - Wanda

Is it rushing the seasons when you find yourself poring over images of fall decorations and even beyond? We had to order a replacement for an old Christmas tree, and I went down that rabbit hole, quickly!

When it recently arrived, I thought about pulling it out of the box to test the lights, and I knew that would lead me down a path of temptation. Maybe I could create an autumn theme to transition it into Thanksgiving and beyond? You can't blame a gal when it's been so rainy and gloomy for the past umpteen days and more is in the forecast. The flowers in the garden are also beginning to wane, and I could use a pick-me-up.

I'll leave you with our client's cozy, pumpkin spice corner to imagine curling up with a grown-up blankie and something cinnamon-flavored to sip.

The following season is just a little more than a month away, and you know what that means . . . Happy HallowThanksgivingMas will be here before you know it.

Back to dreaming and scheming!

Personalizing your home is a way to provide a welcoming environment to others. Even the little details matter.

I was having a conversation with someone in our neighborhood yesterday. She commented that living in her home, while it's for sale, felt strangely out of place. They had a consultation with realtors before it was listed and discussed staging. The whole home was stripped down to depersonalize the spaces. I cringed for her.

Now, don't get me wrong. I understand that not everyone will be able to see past clutter or jarring colors or certain types of art, etc. So if there's something that distracts from the space or could create a major objection, it should be addressed. But I am here to say that if there's something off with the overall style or functional features that are missing, making a space more bland isn't the answer. There are enough of those out there on the market in competition with one another.

Even during one of the worst market downturns, I had clients who sold their homes because the buyers appreciated how well put together they looked. They looked complete. The homes looked like a life was created within the walls. Not someone who decorated with one foot in and one foot out the door.

None of us can predict the future. However, what we CAN do is make our home a place to live. In the present. In joy. In harmony with ourselves and our people. That's the best investment of all.

Note: We added a pretty wallpaper pattern in our client's favorite color to bring some extra interest to her side pantry.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve attended High Point Market, but I’ll never forget my first—back in design school at ECU, when hand-drafting was still king, and computers took up a room. Those were the days of tracing paper, markers, and mental MacGyvering. Something that still comes in handy on jobsites without good cell connectivity. Fast-forward to today, and I’m on my way again, ready to absorb what’s new and next. But with each market, I reflect more deeply on what truly matters in design.

What I’m most excited to observe at this market isn’t just the headline trends and how designers across the country are reinterpreting them to serve real life. We're seeing more focus on spaces that nurture—homes that support mental wellness, adaptability, and comfort. And that's not just a fleeting trend; it’s a necessary evolution. Design has never been about completely following rules. It’s about reflecting on lives, telling stories, and yes, sometimes borrowing from the past to make something beautifully personal for today.

As always, I’ll report back with the market's highlights, but expect more than just what’s trending. Expect insight, conversations, and ideas that honor innovation and individuality.

"If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it." - Margaret Fuller

I think of the many women in my life who raised their candles to offer flames of wisdom and to light the path of inspiration. From my mother to my grandmothers, my friends, colleagues, teachers, and community leaders.

International Women's Day does not need to be celebrated for only 24 hours. We have many new dawns to come. And don't forget to set the clock forward tonight. For forward we shall go!

Soon, we can open the windows to let in a spring breeze. What a beautiful way to start the day!
