My mom always could come up with great gift ideas. She taught us homemade items meant so much to everyone. My mom and I spent so many years visiting craft festivals and shopping for special gifts, crafters made themselves. As we shopped these craft shows my mom always said she and I should open a little craft shop even though, at the time, I didn’t have anything I knew how to make. I had taken sewing lessons when I very young but never did very well. My mom could make almost anything she set her mind to. But years went by and our dream was still a dream.
About 4 years ago my husband and I was out shopping at a local craft store looking at Christmas wreaths. My husband couldn’t believe the quality and the price of the wreath. He told me I could make that wreath myself. I had never made a wreath in my life. I bought some picks and a green wreath and came home and I went to my attic and put my first wreath together. That wreath still hangs in my house each Christmas year. That wreath lead me to make a few more for family and friends. And the best thing is I loved making them. It became therapy for me but the problem was I didn’t want the glitter all through my house so my husband set me up in my attic. And living in Georgia you didn’t (you couldn’t) stand the attic in the middle of the summer. So I was limited to my work time. But I did continued to make wreaths and floral arrangements when I could.
In January 2015 after 35 1/2 years I retired from my full time job with the Social Security Administration. My mom had passed away in Feb 2013 and my father was not in great health. My 2 sisters and I spend time helping my dad. I decided since retired I would start up a little business doing what I enjoyed, making wreaths and floral arrangements. I was still working from the attic and it was still HOT in the summer and cold in the winter but I did started Special Creations by Vicki.
Due to the health of my dad, my time was limited so Special Creations was not growing as I had hoped. In Oct 2017, my dad passed away and suddenly I felt lost and not sure what I was going to do. My special husband told me If I wanted to take my business serious I needed somewhere to work. So we decided to build a shop in our backyard. So Special Creations by Vicki now had a SheShed. Our builder told me I had the best SheShed in GA (which I do). So now I feel so blessed to have the business my mom wanted all those years ago.
