McKinney Knittery McKinney Knittery is a yarn shop in Historic Downtown McKinney, Texas. We carry mostly natural fibers, many hand-dyed yarns, unique accessories, and fabrics.

All are invited to attend our weekly Knit Togethers. Stop in and stay awhile! I'm a quilter. So, why a yarn shop? Over the years I have considered opening a quilt shop only to come to the conclusion it was the right time but the wrong place, or the wrong time and the right place. And then we moved to McKinney in 2013. I picked up knitting again, a hobby I found myself coming back to more frequentl

y. I became frustrated with the lack of a local yarn shop. Sometimes you really NEED a size 6 16-inch circular needle right away! It wasn't long before I starting thinking about opening a yarn shop. I was very happy to be joining the outstanding team at Doozie's Corner, bringing yarn and knitting supplies to Downtown McKinney. Interestingly, it is my understanding the building which now houses Doozie's Corner used to have a yarn shop upstairs. So I guess I'm just continuing a tradition. McKinney Knittery is now in its fourth location in Historic Downtown McKinney, the beautifully restored 120-year-old Enquirer Building located at 117 W Louisiana Street. We are loving the additional space, classrooms, of course more yarn...and the addition of fabric and sewing supplies in our sister company, Downtown Dry Goods! I invite you to visit McKinney Knittery and Downtown Dry Goods. Bring a project and knit awhile with us. Maybe even be inspired to start a new project. Take a stroll around the Square. There's still one seat left in Making Loops: Getting Started with Crochet tomorrow morning, August 23, 10-noon!

Class description:
If you are brand new to crochet or have not touched a hook in years, this class was designed for you! What you will learn: crochet terminology; how to tie a slip knot, hold a crochet hook, and tension yarn; how to chain stitch (ch), single crochet stitch (sc), and work in rows; how to count stitches and weave in ends. This class is for students who are 14+ years old.

NOTE: Please let us know if you are left handed - the instructor will make a foundation row in preparation for class and needs this information.

We featured our Penelope and Albertine restock in yesterday's newsletter. Ginger's Gorm Sweater - Baby uses Albertine in the color Orgeat, and colorful scraps for the stripe detail. In the newsletter we accidentally had it under the Penelope DK yarn, but this pattern is fi*****ng weight.

Penelope: DK weight · 90% organic Merinos d’Arles, 10% mulberry silk · 145 yards per 50g

Penelope is a lovely worsted-spun DK with excellent stitch definition, a soft hand, and just the right touch of sheen from the silk. Its combination of elasticity, drape, and structure makes it a wonderful choice for sweaters, cardigans, accessories, and textured or colorwork projects

Albertine: Fi*****ng weight · 90% organic Merinos d’Arles, 10% mulberry silk · 218 yards per 50g

Same as Penelope but in a lighter weight. Reach for it when you’re dreaming of lightweight sweaters, delicate shawls, lace, or anything you want to wear close to the skin.

Neither yarn is superwash treated, allowing the natural character of the wool to shine through.
