Been watching this trend on Instagram for the last couple of days and while I’m not much for social media trends, this one spoke to me. 18 years ago I was unsure of my professional path and deep into an alcohol addiction that had me questioning my capabilities. My wife in exasperation asked me, “what do you really want to do, like in your core?” In a small voice I told her that my dream was to be a potter.
Three years after that conversation we had a baby boy, a year after that I finally got sober and the next year my wife was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Throughout those turbulent years, the dream persisted. We bought a wheel. Someone gave us a kiln. We collected random shelving and a utility sink and stored it in our shed. The dream still felt out of reach until one serendipitous day in 2023 when out of the blue a studio spot fell in my lap.
Bald Peak Pottery was born and I’m finally able to see my dreams coming to life. As my third holiday season wraps up, I’m so grateful to all of the people who have supported me on this journey, with words of wisdom, creative recommendations, financial support and of course by purchasing and using my art. Thank you.
