Still pinch myself on having a furniture collection with Fireside Lodge Furniture — Re.Curated. What a whirlwind—I love seeing it in delivered and in place. Made with both reclaimed (old Kentucky to***co barns) and locally sourced wood from an amazing company— crafted in the USA. 🙌❤️😊

Shout out thank you to Jessica Jessica Helgerson and Sara Pridgen for all your support and kindness and helping me with great advice. Women helping women. Love it! 😊

10 years later… hard to believe Lawson's Finest Liquids taproom and retail store opened up in 2018 (two years earlier Karen and Sean reached out to me to be their interior designer for it). Who knew that we would work on three additional design projects over the years and our working relationship would turn into a lovely friendship. It was a joy to be with them to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with family and friends. The Lawson's Finest Liquids taproom and retail store project will always remain a special design project — filled with local artisan woodwork and Vermont materials and an incredible team — but even better is the lifelong friendship that came out of it. Cheers to 25 more Karen and Sean! 🎉❤️🎉

When you have an idea and really hope it works— and lo and behold— it does! Thanks Maggie Powers Tepas for trusting me with your vision for The Breakers Inn. Grateful and honored!

To my thrifting and salvage 🐥 peeps out there—beyond a blast to follow you on Insta! Your sharing your thrifting designs is inspiring! ⭐️💫🤩

Some moreideas… mix and match leftover materials— left over building supplies —rebuild stores or online on your local Facebook marketplace or similar. Think- wainscoting made from old trim— vintage dresser turned vanity!

Don’t want to mix and match— no worries! There are thousands of recycled glass and porcelain tiles out there that give you any look and feel you want. I just used some that look exactly like marble for a luxury home. (Recycling glass is so important— because only a small percentage of what we recycle actually gets reused— so using it as tile is an easy way to help increase that.)

There are many other “new” products made from recycled material— put your list together and you’ll never go back. From recycled metal drawer hardware to insulation— it is there.

In my design projects a lot of times— I work around things that are already there— instead of changing something out (hardwood floors, or cabinets, etc). Can you change them in another way without removing them? The “food groups” style pyramid is to help you understand the best ways to reuse.

Meet your peeps- go to your architectural salvage shop, thrift store, fairs with salvage design speakers, follow your favorite Instagram accounts that inspire you with reuse. Lone Fox by Drew Michael Scott does a lovely job with this! Shannon Quimby is another salvage guru. I love how Jessica Helgerson reuses in their designs. 😍. And of course, follow your favorite salvage shops— I saw old doors posted on instagram by one of my favorite shops—I called them and within 10 minutes I owned those doors. They were white and shabby but we saw beyond that and painted them a high gloss black-they were transformed- and featured in a lux mag.

I’m heading to Oregon right now and this coming Saturday— I’ll be signing books and chatting with folks about design at Vintage in the Valley Market in McMinnville.

If I don’t see you there — I hope we bump into each other at our favorite thrift shops. 😘

Words cannot express how happy I am for my best friend, Shannon Quimby who has been working on a special project for years hoffs_homestead🙌🙌

She has created, designed, built and styled a slice of heaven in Visit McMinnville Oregon. A boutique lodging location in downtown McMinnville. She is so talented—and I cannot wait to help her celebrate its opening—coming soon. I hope you follow along on her journey and stay at this special place.

To celebrate we have decided to to have a booth together— finally — after years of talking about it. At the upcoming Vintage in the Valley Market on July 25th. I will be signing my books and selling some DIY’s I’ve been making over the past few months. Shannon — will have some incredible vintage and antique finds for you! Come by and say hi! We are happy to chat design, salvage, styling, books and DIY’s with you!

Before and After of a couple of spaces of the thebreakershigginsbeach renovation project. Working with Maggie, the new owner, was a blast and an honor. Hope you get a chance to visit it this summer! More to come…

Big thank you to Fireside Lodge Furniture for the custom bar, bed and night stands and all the custom hardwood pieces in the public spaces and Kellex Seating for the custom upholstered pieces in the public spaces, including these gorgeous bar stools. And a shout out to Granit Design for the stone bar tops and nightstands tops —they are amazing. Shout out to Milliken & Company for helping us custom color the guest room carpets, and, of course, National Carpet and Flooring, for going the extra mile with install. It takes a village! And I love mine! 🤗🤗🤗🙏🥰

So excited to see this project come to life. 💙

The Breakers Inn at Higgins Beach opened this weekend, and I couldn’t be happier for Maggie and her team. It was a joy to help bring this vision to life and watch every detail come together.

Thank you for entrusting me to be a part of this journey. Wishing you a wonderful first season and many happy guests ahead.
