a great night’s sleep and/or a peaceful, possibly drool-y nap are a huge part of what epps and i want for swan cottage (we do strive to provide an elevated guest experience!) in my quest to use only found or handed-down pieces to furnish the cottage (except *of course* the mattresses and linens are brand-new!) here’s a quick tour of what we used for the ‘bunk room’ (which will hopefully have 4 built-in bunks someday…and something on the window soon.)
for now, it sleeps two in a pair of log beds from when our boys were little.
mr. j’s cousin married the founder of blue dog furniture in missoula, mt, and keith made the beds for us, then they were in our attic for a while. miraculously, only the little pegs that hold them together were missing. i’ll confess, i spit out coffee laughing when epps said he would just ‘whittle us some new ones’…but he DID!
so they don’t completely overwhelm the room, i gave them a wash of antique white jolie paint.
other sources: 26-year-old ralph lauren ‘wilson’ plaid coverlets, faux-wolf pillows, & vintage yakima blankets from the original boys’ room • gingham cases • faux hudson bay stripe pillows made by me using a drop cloth, jolie paints, and inserts • audubon plates & prints and the rug from my M-I-L’s attic • wall sconces from • bedside table is an estate sale find • bedside lamp is a vintage demijohn from made into a lamp at lampshade house, memphis.
sleep well!
