New Classes @ BMB Designs

I just got back from Sinter - the awesome metal clay conference put on by AMCAW and have some great techniques and new goodies to share in my upcoming metal clay classes!

My heart is so full!! I just got home from one of the best classes I've taught in a while and it was all because of some absolutely amazing students. Look at the pieces they made!! I'm so happy for them and their accomplishments and can't wait to see what else they make.

This class reaffirmed why I do what I do - making metalsmithing accessible, both financially and physically, and helping people unlock their creativity is so rewarding. And when I get to do that for someone, I feel like I am making a positive difference in the world.

Student 3 cut the stones that are used in her pieces, and the gorgeous Royston ribbon turquoise in Student 4's piece. (I'm seriously drooling over that petrified wood teardrop in her pendant)

Several students had never worked with a torch soldering silver before and by the end they were pick soldering chain, sweat soldering embellishments and building beautiful pieces of jewelry they will enjoy for years.

A big thank you to for hosting the class, especially during the Iris Festival (I didn't get to go take photos of any of the irises unfortunately, but there were some beautiful ones!)

I'll be back in Mountain View in June for a 2 -day Botanicals and Bezels class where students will be making either a pendant or a ring with a gemstone set in a bezel, a sparkly faceted stone set in a premade setting, and adding unique cast botanical elements like succulents or leaves (premade for the class) as always, I bring all the tools and materials and you show up and make something special!

Ross metals reached out to me and asked if they could send me a catalog. I, of course, said yes as I've been stalking them online for years debating what to order from them.

You don't realize how much you have missed having a print catalog to shop for components from until another one shows up!!! (I have kept an old rio catalog for reference but at this point it's so old it doesn't have much relevant stuff in it)

I'm excited to sit with these on my vacation and pick out some new stuff for the shop and upcoming classes. (And maybe a little bit of fancy gold for me !)

The studio might look a little different next time you're in.

If you've been missing the spectacular woven pieces from Virginia Fisher , I have a small selection of some really gorgeous pieces (I have a few of the sprouts bowls - they don't sit on the little ledges though so they're not in the first photo)

In organizing and moving tools and equipment around, I found the totes of new product I received recently (they weren't lost for long) and I'm working on getting everything out where you can see it. I have a bunch of fun chain and some of the non-tarnish wires in assorted shapes and colors - like champagne gold square and silver plated twist.

The last of the Tucson loot has been catalogued and priced and is being worked into the drawers of cabs and boxes of littles and facets.

I'll be at the Botanic Gardens teaching the Metal Clay leaf class this Saturday, and the studio will be open 12-4 on Tuesday, April 14th. I'll be closed on the 15th and 21st, so if you need something before then, let me know and I'll do what I can to make sure you can get it!

We made chains this past Saturday from lots and lots of loops! If you want to get really good at soldering small links, this class is the way to do it!

Not all the chains were finished in class, but progress is still being made! Double-loop-in-loop will be the next chain class offered - dates coming soon!
