The Dermer House | All the pretty details are coming together!✨

Countertops are being 3-D templated this week, and we are getting one step closer to bringing this kitchen to life! 🤍 We chose a beautiful natural stone that will contrast so beautifully with the soft ivory cabinetry, creating that timeless, collected look we love.

The simple antique wood island is officially in, and it’s giving all the Anthropologie vibes! 😍 We’re pairing it with two Schoolhouse pendants from TheLampGoods to bring in that perfect mix of vintage charm and understated elegance.

And because every old farmhouse has a story to tell, we’re bringing back some of those classic details, too! Think brick chimney inspiration, reclaimed timbers, warm neutrals, vaulted ceilings, and limestone-look flooring that blends seamlessly with the original wood floors in the adjacent foyer and stairway.

It’s all about mixing old-world character with fresh, timeless design, and this home is coming together so beautifully! 🏡

We can’t wait to share more as the finishing touches fall into place. Stay tuned, because this beauty will be hitting the market soon, ready for someone to make lots of happy memories here! 🤎

✨ A first look at the new floor plan for the Dermer House! ✨

Before we start sharing more of the interior spaces, we wanted to give you a peek at how this incredible home has evolved from its original late-1800s layout.

When the Dermer House was relocated on its incredible two-mile journey, we knew we had an opportunity to thoughtfully reimagine the layout. Over the years, the home had been remodeled, likely with a mudroom addition after its original construction. While it served its purpose, the footprint we started with just wasn't the most functional for today's homeowner. So, we made some much-needed adjustments while staying true to the home's historic character.

Here's what's new:

🏡 We added a {main-level PRIMARY SUITE} that seamlessly flows with the rest of the home's living spaces, creating a layout that feels natural and functional.

✨ Once demo began, we uncovered VAULTED CEILINGS in the kitchen. There was no question—we had to open that space up! We're adding beautiful timber accents to showcase this unexpected feature and highlight the home's craftsmanship.

🪵 We also OPENED up the living room and staircase by installing structural beams, creating a brighter, more connected gathering space while maintaining the home's integrity.

🚪 The {FRONT DOOR} has been relocated to the center of the foyer where it belongs, and we're currently building a welcoming {COVERED FRONT PORCH}.

🧱 As with many of our projects, we'll be incorporating {RECLAIMED SCHOOLHOUSE BRICK} around the porch surround. It's one of our favorite ways to blend history with timeless design, adding even more charm to a home that already has incredible bones.

🛁 One thing this home had never had? A bathroom upstairs! We found the perfect spot to tuck in a {POWDER ROOM} making the second level much more functional for family and guests.

Every decision we've made has been about respecting the home's history while creating spaces that fit the way people live today. We think we've found the perfect balance.

Now comes one of our favorite parts—the interior finishes! Follow along!

Remember the walnut kitchen with open shelving from one of our new builds? {Reminder photo added here} It quickly became one of our most-loved projects, and we were excited to see that same look inspire another special space.

Working with a wonderful local customer, this project started with a vision, a simple layout sketched on paper, and owners who were ready to do the work to make it happen. They worked diligently to reconfigure the entire space, creating a layout that flows better, functions more efficiently, and feels more welcoming for future guests. We love collaborating with dreamers and makers who can see what a space could become and are willing to put in the effort to bring that vision to life.

What makes this project even more meaningful is the history behind it. This property has been a family rental through the generations, and now it’s beginning a new chapter with a thoughtful update to a historic space.

The walnut cabinets are custom made to order in Utah, making them a truly special part of the project. There’s something rewarding about incorporating a high-quality, American-made product that is built specifically for the space. Delivered directly to the jobsite and unboxed on-site, these cabinets immediately brought warmth and character to the renovation.

From the black hardware and mixed wood tones to the custom backsplash inspired by a photo of the original brick chimney, every detail was carefully considered. The owners took their vision and brought it to life, creating a beautiful balance between honoring the property's history and introducing fresh, modern design.

We love working with dreamers and makers, and this project is a perfect example of what can happen when creativity, craftsmanship, and a lot of hard work come together.

We think they absolutely nailed it!

Thinking about updating a space of your own? We'd love to help bring your vision to life. Tell us—which detail would you choose for your dream kitchen?

Some of the most compelling spaces aren’t designed all at once—they’re discovered, slowly, through layers of texture, history, and intention.

As a designer, I’m always drawn to pieces that tell a story. Not just how something looks, but where it’s been… who’s held it, learned from it, built something because of it.

These early 1900s real estate books have become one of my favorite elements in my office. The patina of the covers, the softened edges, the handwritten notes tucked into margins—they bring a depth that no brand-new object ever could. They ground the space. They add soul.

Design isn’t about filling a room—it’s about curating it. Mixing the refined with the worn, the polished with the personal. Letting history sit alongside modern life in a way that feels effortless and lived-in.

These books are more than décor—they’re a reminder that great spaces, like great stories, are layered over time.

Create spaces that feel collected, not completed. 🤍
