The inspiration of “Jon Qsak (Say Something)”. 🤖
It all started with a pen sketch from Pittston’s Mayor Michael Lombardo and his love for the 80’s movie, Say Anything with John Cusack and the iconic boombox scene. Awhile back Mayor Lombardo showed me his idea of a robot holding a massive boombox over his head and having a digital screen built into the boombox to display messages, events, etc. and have it standing in the middle of downtown. I was intimidated by the size of the project and the size of the robot itself once I started sketching up the design on my shop floor. I knew it was going to be big! I started gathering scrapyard materials and Harley parts to use as details throughout its design and started the process of replacing the chalk lines on my floor with actual pieces of steel. It was on! I was constantly dreaming of different things to add to make him different and unique and give him a very special personality. He definitely has a unique personality.

Early into the build I knew he was going to be too massive for me to handle on my own so I called my metal friend Chris Daniels from Metal Fuzions,
(we built the Lace Village sign together) I knew his fabrication expertise was going to be needed to build this 16’ tall robot structurally sound and able to hold a huge digital sign inside a huge heavy boombox. With his skills, machinery and knowledge it gave me the confidence that this big boy wouldn’t be going anywhere. Underneath all the whimsically fun details are some major beams, supports and brackets holding it all together! After I built the chest and head, I brought them to Chris’s shop where we designed the legs, arms and boombox to all work with what I had done. It was also so nice to have his ideas and input to throw into the designing/building process! Because of the height of it, we were never able to put all of the sections together in the shop, so when we installed it, it was the first time seeing the whole robot all together. My jaw dropped when we stood back and saw it! It is enormous in person! What an experience!
It was stored for awhile until the time came to install it. The installation process was an experience of its own. It all went amazingly with lots of helping hands from Mayor Lombardo and his team! Mayor Lombardo is a working machine! I’ve known this from the 9 years of spending time and working with him on other projects, but I must say, this install was a lot of work and he did most of it! It was inspirational to watch. We were able to get him all wrapped up and unveiled and the opening ceremony of the annual Pittston Tomato Festival. It was definitely a proud and surreal moment seeing him standing there finally alive and ready to bring his messages to the city! There is so much more I could say about all of this experience but this is long enough! A million thanks to the amazing Mayor Lombardo, his team, Chris and the city of Pittston for having “Jon Qsak” towering over your city! We are so proud and so honored! 🤖

I still can’t believe the news came to broadcast the unveiling LIVE on tv! Here are just some photos of the unveiling of “Jon Qsak” on the opening night of the Pittston Tomato Festival! After the rain cleared out Thursday, it turned out to be a gorgeous weekend with tons of people enjoying all the fun, food and festivities and also checking out Pittston’s newest and largest piece of public art! We sure are proud and I’m excited to share the whole story and process of how he came to life! 🤖
-On a side note. We are trying to get John Cusack to see this massive robot that he inspired, so if you happen to know him, pass this along to him! 🤣

Just a few photos from the “Jon Qsak (Say Something)” unveiling at the opening ceremony of this year’s Pittston Tomato Festival Thursday night! It was such a wonderful whirlwind with lots going on but I was able to squeeze all the excitement, support, adrenaline and love into my heart and made some memories that will last a lifetime! I will be showing lots more of the event and installation leading up to it and share where the inspiration came from to create such a piece! Thank everyone for coming out and thank you a million times again to Mayor Michael Lombardo and the city of Pittston for having me build this big dude to tower over the city! I hope everyone gets out to enjoy the food and festivities and check out “Jon Qsak” over the next two days of the festival! 🍅🤖🍅

I’m excited to have installed this large wall piece in The Open Space Building in beautiful Downtown Pittston! I created this piece awhile back and had stored it until the renovations were almost complete in the building. It was a pleasure to catch up with Pittston’s incredible Mayor, Michael Lombardo and have his assistance installing this 5’ by 6’ wall art in the city’s boardroom and future art academy! The Mayor and his team’s vision, dedication and love for Pittston’s revival, progress and upcoming plans for the city are unbelievable. There is so much happening and so many huge plans in the works for downtown. The Open Space Building also happens to be the same building that has Pittston’s extremely popular new restaurant, The HouseNoir in it. I am once again so proud and honored to have another piece of me and my work installed in the city Pittston!

From spark to fire, from smoke to flame and from dream to reality! This meat cranking contraption started out from an idea that the amazing restaurateur, best-selling author, celebrity chef Zach Neil had as an incredibly creative, one of a kind steak presentation and service at Pittston’s newest and hottest restaurant, The HouseNoir. The dramatic machines are wheeled over to the customer’s table, a massive two person tomahawk steak is pierced, cranked up midair, torched and finished off with a flame thrower, then sliced up and served up table side. The sound the crank makes while crankin’ is all part of the experience! I was so honored when Zach reached out to build his idea for them! I’ve done other work for him in the past and knew when I got the call, that it was going to get interesting. I also have tons of my lighting throughout the beautifully dark, gothic and meticulously decorated atmosphere that I built for the wickedly talented, co-owner and friend Josh Balz. I am sooo honored and proud to be a part of anything these two guys do and to be part of The HouseNoir dining experience! Make some reservations and experience it all for yourself, you won’t be disappointed!

❗️NEW DATE❗️As sad and utterly bummed as I am to say, the unveiling ceremony for the Veteran’s Memorial sculpture has been changed to next Saturday the 30th due to the stupid all day rain that is in the forecast for this Saturday! I’m going to turn my frown upside down and be optimistic that on the 30th there will be an even bigger turnout and perfect weather in store! I hope to see you NEXT Saturday the 30th at 2pm at the Veteran’s Park in Clarks Summit for the celebration! Located at 200 N. State St. Clarks Summit, Pa. 18411.

Wow! The kindness, generosity, hard work, and positive feedback that is all going on with this Veteran’s Park memorial piece for Clarks Summit is pretty unbelievable! Many amazing hands and hearts are going into this memorial between all the local donors for the beautiful stone foundation materials, Abington Heights masonry students, the Clarks Summit borough, VFW-7069, and the community! I certainly couldn’t have done it without Shiffer Masonry, who pretty much orchestrated the whole base, met with donors and is building an absolutely amazing stone base for my sculpture. Gerrie Carey, president of the council and incredible woman is who brought all of this together and started the ball rolling.
Tuesday I had the pleasure of talking with The Scranton Times-Tribune about the project and talked about my experience building this piece. Yesterday they sent a photographer up to get some photos of me and the sculpture before it goes to be installed next week! I am so happy and so grateful and so wickedly proud of everything that is happening right now! I hope to see you at the unveiling Saturday the 23rd at 2pm! Memorial Day weekend!

The 8-foot sculpture by artist and borough native Scott Nichols, which includes a model of the Liberty Bell, will be placed in Veterans’ Memorial Park at State Street and Clark Avenue.

I still can’t believe this! I am beyond honored and so proud to be installing a huge memorial sculpture in my hometown of Clarks Summit, Pa. in the Veteran’s Park! So much went into this incredible project all starting with the amazing president of the Abington council, Gerrie Carey asking me to build a sculpture to commemorate the United States 250th birthday and permanently install it in the park as you enter the Summit. I am blown away by the opportunity to build a piece of art that will be displayed in the town where I grew up, where my family left their legacy behind with the Inn at Nichols Village and where my heart, soul and pride have always been. To say I’m proud of this opportunity is an understatement! This is just one of the huge projects and opportunities that I’ve been keeping a secret for so long, with lots more coming!

The awesomeness didn’t stop there. Gerrie contacted an old friend of mine Mark Shiffer from Shiffer Masonry and told him about the project, he dove totally headfirst into building a killer foundation for my metalwork to sit on. Mark is also the masonry teacher at Abington Heights high school and was allowed to have his students work and get credits for building this beautiful stone foundation. His footwork didn’t stop there, he reached out to many local venders and businesses and got donations for the stone, concrete, a massive fancy stone for the top and assuring this foundation has turned from just a little slab, to a huge beautiful Cadillac of a stone foundation! I know that every time I pass this memorial that I will have so much pride pouring out of me and will be forever grateful for the Clarks Summit borough, community and all the other hands and hearts that went into this memorial project! I am so blessed to have such amazing people around me all the time!
The unveiling ceremony of the “America 250” themed piece will be Saturday 23rd, (Memorial Day weekend) at 2pm in the Veteran’s Park across from The Lounge of the Abingtons and the Convenient.

“The Great Wide Open”. So fun! A couple “firsts” for me on this aviation themed wall piece for a friend’s home! The first fun part was building this wall art around a beautiful 6’ long authentic airplane propeller, the 2nd fun thing was making these “paper airplanes” out of metal. I was questioning how I was going to make them, but once I figured one out, it was a blast making the rest of them and even brought back many childhood memories of folding paper airplanes with my father. I loved building this whole piece! The massive 6’ long, 4’ high piece looks pretty stunning hanging on her office wall! I finished the center of the propeller hub off with a personalized nameplate. Thank you so much again Linell, it was an absolute pleasure and I hope you enjoy it for a lifetime! ✈️
