Like so many others, we were devastated to learn of the deaths of Chris Arsenault and at least 100 of the cats at the Happy Cat Sanctuary in Long Island. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire, which seems particularly tragic in light of Chris’s efforts to move his beloved cats to a new sanctuary farther upstate after facing harassment from some of his neighbors. We will be watching the arson investigation with interest, and we know that many of you will do the same. In the meantime, the surviving cats still need food, shelter, medical care, and love! We encourage all to help them out by following the link in the first comment below. No donation is “too little” to do some good. It can be tempting to give in to despair when we see how a single act of destruction can happen so fast and break our hearts almost beyond repair. Acts of goodness aren’t as flashy. The things they nurture don’t grow as quickly. They happen in quiet places, over longer periods of time. But that’s what makes them stronger and better, and it’s the reason why, in the end, good will always win out. Never doubt it.
