During last week’s Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Mexico session we visited three locations; Sydenstricker Nobbe Partners, Sydenstricker Genetics and Hickory Ridge Orchard. I’ve been looking forward to this session since signing up for LM and the day did not disappoint!

Shout out to the team at SNP for lunch, a fun tour of the shop and all the information about the incredible technology John Deere is bringing to the fields.🌽👩🏼‍🌾

Shout out to Ben & Darla Eggers for the tour of the Syd Gen facility and sharing so much with us! Can we talk about how fascinating the world of cattle is?!🐄

Shout out to Brandt at HRO for the tour, sharing your beautiful location with us and for the delicious apple cider slushies - they really hit the spot on the humid day! 🍏🍎

Big THANK YOU to all three businesses for hosting us, sharing so much with us and for helping to make Mexico a wonderful place to live. We are truly lucky to have these businesses in our small community!

While we were at Syd Gen I was reunited with my Angus barn quilt. It was currently off the building in preparation for new siding but will be hung back up soon. Thanks to my co-worker Troy for snapping a quick picture!

This recently came up on my memories and it made me smile.

This was my first barn quilt and “helping” was my kitty Royals.

For years my dad had been saying he wanted a barn quilt and he’d made plenty of hints that he thought his daughter could “probably throw one together for him…”

On a whim - without doing any research whatsoever and without measuring my small, hatchback car - I headed to Home Depot on a hot May afternoon determined to create a barn quilt for my dad as a surprise for his upcoming birthday.

Luck was on my side because the pieces *did* fit in my car, they barely fit but they fit! Over the next days I spent my evenings home in my cozy St Louis apartment painting away, meticulously getting each line perfect…with lots of “help” from Royals and his sister Rosie. It was real learning process and a few weeks later I was headed home to the farm with the barn quilt pieces ready to surprise dad.

I didn’t buy the best kind of wood, I definitely did not buy the right kind of paint and I had no idea how we’d hang it on the shop considering it was in four pieces and I had zero idea how/the skills to create a frame. But my dad wad thrilled! We got a frame built and the barn quilt hung the same weekend. Dad kept it hung on the side of shop until it was literally falling apart. Since then dad has been gifted his Allis Chalmers barn quilt to take this one’s place on the shop and this quilt, because he’s too sentimental and he can’t seem to part with it, it’s stored in one of the old grain bins at the farm. It’s definitely seen better days but I’ll always be proud of it and I think my dad will be too.

Another Friday, another Flash Back Friday barn quilt!

In honor of the beautiful weather we’ve been blessed with here in Mid-Missouri and all the flowers that are blooming, here is one of my favorites.

This happy, sun-shiny flower quilt was created for a family member and is displayed in my home town of Montgomery City.

Have a wonderful Friday-Yay friends and an even better weekend! 🌼🌼🌼

Happy Fri-YAY friends! I hope you’ve had a wonderful week and can join me in a little happy dance for the much needed rain!

Is “Flash Back Friday” still a thing? Do I sound old asking that? 😉 I’m just going to pretend it is still a very hip thing and share one of my favorite creations in honor of FBF.

Flash Back Friday to this one of a kind, originally designed and hand painted Allis Chalmers barn quilt I created for my dad in 2019. This quilt is hung at the family farm, front and center on the shop so all can see. My dad is awfully proud of it and so am I. It will always be one of my favorites. It is still as sturdy, bright and beautiful as the day we hung it five years ago!

If you are interested in something similar for your home give me a shout, I’d love to create something for you!

On Thursday February 29th Audrain Agribusiness held their 49th Annual Agriculture Appreciation Dinner.

Ag couples from across Audrain County came to socialize, enjoy a wonderful meal provided by Audrain County Pork Producers and hear Mike John speak on his experience in the Missouri Cattle Industry.

The big event of the night was the presentation of the Rural Citizen Award. Congratulations to the 2023 Dale H. Schnarre Rural Citizen Award recipients Jon & Dana Robnett! In addition to this honor they were also gifted a hand painted barn quilt for their farm.

BIG thank you to Audrain Agribusiness for the opportunity to create another barn quilt for your event!

Hi friends and welcome to my page for Baker Barn Quilts!

I have been creating barn quilts for a number of years and the question “Do you have a page?” has popped up more than once. I may be a little late to the party, but I am finally jumping on the Facebook bandwagon and starting a page to share my projects, events where my quilts can be seen and so on.

This page will also serve as a great way to communicate with me if you are interested in purchasing a hand painted piece from me!

If you’re new here you may be wondering who I am and what are barn quilts. I’m happy to share some background with you!

Below is a quick write up about me and how I became interested in this form of art. Attached is a photo of me with the barn quilt I created for the Audrain County Agribusiness group in 2023. This quilt was presented to the 2022 Dale H. Schnarre Rural Citizen award recipients, the Sydenstricker Family. Currently this beautiful quilt is displayed at the Sydenstricker Genetics facility located in Mexico, MO.

Thanks for stopping by!

“Chelsea Reagan-Baker is a self-taught barn quilt artist residing in Audrain County. Born and raised in neighboring Montgomery County, her interest in the art of quilting was spurred at an early age by the handmade quilts crafted by her great-grandmother Lorene Reagan. Not patient enough for quilting and already an accomplished painter, Chelsea was drawn to the artistry and beauty of barn quilts as an alternative to stitching.

Her barn quilts can be seen scattered throughout Montgomery and Audrain counties as well as Centralia, Moberly, and Lexington, MO. She has donated quilts to various charitable auctions in the area including the Monroe County Cancer Supporters, Montgomery County Cancer Supporters and the Audrain County Dream Factory.

In addition, she has created five barn quilts for Audrain County Agribusiness which were presented to recipients of the Dale H. Schnarre Rural Citizen Award. Currently she is working on a barn quilt for this year’s event – stay tuned for the final reveal next week!

Chelsea specializes in traditional barn quilt patterns and colors but creates originally designed pieces as well. Made for both interior and exterior display, her quilts come in a variety of sizes, from 1ft X 1ft to 8ft X 8ft and in between. Chelsea’s barn quilts are hand painted using high quality materials that ensure your barn quilt will be a colorful addition to your farm, home, or business for years to come.”
