I grew up restoring houses like this with my father, and finally purchased my dream home along the Connecticut river this spring. This is the Oliver Green house built in 1804. Lots of projects to do, but looking forward!

Hello all! We purchased our 1890 home in December. It’s currently a quad plex that was converted to apartments in the late 1920’s/early 1930’s (confirmed by scouring census and fire map info). We have lived in and loved this house since 2014. For now it’s going to stay apartments but the eventual goal is to restore her to her single family glory.

I’ve been casually researching for years (and hoping to stumble across the original plans) but we never have. We’ve been to the library, the courthouse, etc. and we’ve found some really interesting information but not enough information. The most interesting fact is that we are fairly sure it was commissioned by (or was a spec house that he purchased), C.B. Moomaw who was a prominent member of local society and the mayor for a few years until his death. The 1890 census was destroyed but in 1900-the mid 1950s he or his children owned the home so we assume he was the original owner.

This may have been asked but I’ve dug back a little and haven’t seen any similar posts - does anyone know of someone or a company that we could hire to dig deeper than I have been able to?

Anyway, glad to be here. I’ve been an old house enthusiast since I was a little kid and can’t believe I actually legally own this beauty.

After 17 years of love and restoration we are selling our 1915 Craftsman bungalow. Our family sure loved living here. Minnesota. I hope it will go to someone who loves old Craftsman homes.

Some slow progress 2.5 years after purchasing a new to us home. The home was built in 1924 though the city says 1920. I found the building permit and there was no plumbing in the area in 1920. The home had been remodeled sometime just prior to 1961. All the oak woodwork was painted sea foam green. They even painted the terracotta tile on the gas furnace insert green. It took me over 2 years stripping the woodwork, in place, and staining. I repaired the plaster walls, as best I could, using anchors and in maybe 15% of the wall area I used sheet rock, as I don't know how to mix gypsum. Then plastered over that. The walls got there second coat of paint last weekend. The floors are next then I have to clean up the old quarter round. The prior owners kept it stored in the garage when the carpet was added. It is also oak. Sadly, I found that when the plaster ceiling was replaced, prior to 1961, they replaced the crown molding and it is not oak and did not accept stain as I had hoped so I had to change my plans. Photos of when I purchased the house and some taken today. I cleaned up the brass light switch cover by the front door tonight but that didn't make it into the photo. P.S. If you are curious to know what the house looked like when we bought it here is a link. I promise the back yard is much better now. https://www.homes.com/property/1327-e-20th-st-tulsa-ok/gcetpfly8degn/

Left is our house right now. Right is how I want it to look when I have the budget to repaint. What do you think? 🤔

Hi all! I just wanted to introduce myself and share a photo of our new, old home! Built in the 50s, it still has so much of the original charm. Over 4,000 square ft with 3 fireplaces, pocket doors and original hardwood and tile in the bathrooms! Just wanted to share this beauty and ask for any tips on keeping the charm but adding some curb appeal. Thanks!
