Tropical Storm Bertha has made landfall on South Carolina’s coast shortly after it formed, becoming the second named storm before the official start of this year’s Atlantic hurricane season. The Atlantic hurricane season officially begins on June 1 and runs until November 30.

IT'S OFFICIAL | Last night the NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center named the first storm of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season, which doesn't officially start until June 1st.

The low-pressure system that brought torrential rain to South Florida has organized into Tropical Storm Arthur well offshore of Central Florida and north of the Bahamas. Indications are it will track over or near extreme eastern North Carolina on Monday.

Forecasters at Colorado State University have released their predictions for the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season and call for an “above-average” season.

The official start of hurricane season is June 1st. Please use this time at home to make preparations and check that your shutters are in good shape, should they be needed.

Colorado State University has released its first hurricane-season forecast of 2020. The prediction is that 16 named storms will form in the Atlantic, the Caribbean or the Gulf of Mexico -- eight of which will be hurricanes and four of which will reach Category 3 or higher strength.
