Chasing Florida sunsets? 🌅 Discover the incredible story of The Florida Highwaymen.

During the Jim Crow era of the 1950s and 60s, this collective of 26 self-taught African American artists defied the odds. Barred from traditional galleries due to segregation, they created a self-made art movement—painting rapidly from memory and selling their vibrant landscapes right out of their car trunks along Florida’s highways. 🌴🚗

Using affordable Upson board and crown molding for frames, they captured the raw, untouched beauty of old Florida:
* ✨ Radiant, blood-orange sunsets
* ✨ Windswept palm trees and crashing waves
* ✨ Brilliant red Royal Poinciana trees

Once sold for just $20 from a roadside trunk, these historic, vibrant works are now inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame and highly prized by collectors worldwide.

The roads, rivers, palms, and glowing skies of Florida weren’t just painted by the Florida Highwaymen — they were preserved by them. Come see these pieces of Florida history in person at Antique City Mall! Open daily 10-6
