As members of the capitalist self employed, we are here for you to wander about our beautiful shop and buy yourself some awesome vintage! The first autumn leaves in my yard is the beautiful native dogwood, so vibrant they remind me of fall in southern Ontario, where I grew up. I won’t need memories to sustain me this fall, as I’m going on vacation, back home, to tour the Great Lakes Leaf Peeping Road Trip. My sister and I hope to see every Great Lake, yup “that one” too, the one causing so much controversy, and checking out the fall colors! Between September 24th and October 4th, we will only be open Friday, Saturday and Sundays, while Shirlie holds down the fort. I can’t wait to see my sis, and no worries, I’ll be taking you along with me!

What a pretty day! I got up early and hit a good sale, drove down the mountain to the shop to do a little reshuffle, then home and got my outdoor container plants watered. House nice and tidy and ready for the big weekend! It really feels like I went to bed one night and woke up to autumn. The leaves are falling, we had our first rain and the temperature is hovering in the 60s. I know this too shall pass, it’s way too early for fall in NorCal, but I’m savoring it as long as it lasts! Hope your Labor Day Weekend is awesome, stop on in and see Shirlie and I, we’ll be at the shop all weekend, our regular hours, 10:30-4:30.

It’s never too soon to start thinking about Christmas. I picked up these random pieces of a very old quilt, knowing I could create something special with them, and also saving them and honoring the art and history of them. These will be the cutest rustic country ornaments or an unexpected addition to the wrapping of a gift. Im so glad I could give them another life!

A couple of pieces I’ve been working on and making their way to the shop. A classic white painted round oak table, a sweet demi lune olive painted shelf, and an unusually shaped mcm solid walnut corner table. The corner table is waiting in the wings for a spot to open up, but the other pieces are available. Also new to the shop is this awesome stained glass lamp, she’s a beauty for sure!

Who can stack a cord of oak firewood in under two hours? This granny can!🙋🏻‍♀️I’ve been stacking cord wood my whole adult life, so I better have the technique perfected by now. Today was the perfect day for this particular activity, cool and misty out. Usually i’m dodging the sun, sweating and cursing. To treat myself for a job well done, a baked apple cake was a reward indeed! Also, check out those cute potholders my daughter Kristina | Professional Makeup & Hair made me last Christmas😍 Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree😁 If you’d like to try your hand at this easy and delicious cake, I’ve included the recipe. It’s especially yummy, hot out of the oven with a scoop of ice cream.😋

As we turn the page onto September, the earth breathes a sigh and ushers in cooling winds, puffy clouds and dare we hope, a drenching rain? It’s like the goddess flipped a switch at midnight, and said, now it is time for fall. I’m snuggled in at home after a day at the shop, and paused on my commute home to show you the wonder that is southern Lake County in autumn. Enjoy.
