I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to do this by myself, especially once I saw the size of the tiller I rented from Home Depot 😬

But it turns out, I not only could, I was also able to return the rental an hour early! All in all, I tilled the 860+ square foot garden, plus two rows outside the fence for my cottage garden border in about 2 hours.

No more thin and wimpy mantle garland for this girl! I’ve finally figured out how to make the Christmas mantle look thick and lush without blocking the tv (and soundbar) for my dear husband.

I didn’t invent any new groundbreaking ideas, just implemented new to me ones. I used command ties to hold multiple layers of garland, except the right side just wouldn’t stay so that’s a good old fashioned nail and wire, and then added *lots* of greenery and berry picks focusing on the corners and vertical pieces so singular we didn’t block the giant black box of viewing pleasure.

I am on the hunt for new heirloom quality stockings for next year. Maybe I’ll make some from wool sweaters? Still to be determined, but I’m over the big box store polyester ones that never hang right.

All that to say, if your garland feels thin and you want it more lush, just add layers next year!

I should be wrapping Christmas presents, but my adhd kicked in and I hung a gallery wall in our downstairs hallway with antique store and thrift store finds I’ve been collecting instead. They’ve been gathering dust - literally please don’t look too close 😅 - so I’m really happy I did this because it’s given this transitional space between the entryway and the kitchen such a homey feel I didn’t know it was missing! And it’s one more task off my mental to do list!

So cheers to procrastination and side quests! 🥂 Also, please tell me I’m not the only one who does things like this??

Last year’s entryway all dressed up for the holidays! I’m planning a similar Olde World Christmas theme this year with a few new additions 🎄

Faux cedar garland, twinkle lights, and burgundy velvet bows with a fresh cranberry garland.

A little Southern Gothic touch for Halloween ~ bats, black candles, and a moody floral moment 🕯️🥀🦇
I added the bats and swapped in dark taper candles to make these vintage sconces feel festive for spooky season. These drip red to look like vampires blood 🩸

I foraged a fallen tree branch from the woods, wrapped it in muscadine vines and Spanish moss, and then flicker flame lights. I added black butterflies, heirloom pumpkins, burgundy and purple mums, and repurposed a cinnamon broom into witch’s broom with another foraged branch and black velvet bow.

After Halloween, I’ll transition the porch into pure autumn 🍂 We don’t get trick or treaters, so I don’t usually decorate for Halloween, but I figured we could do it for us.
