Focus on style: 2026 trends. Everyone has a take on the current trends. The three stages of a trend are introduction, acceptance, and saturation. By the time a trend hits saturation, or as I like to put it "becomes builder grade" it's already on its way out. Trends go away when they become common. People want unique spaces. They don't want the same house as their neighbor. One thing that I find disturbing is a lack of continuity between home exterior style and home interiors. Your homes exterior and interior shouldn't look like different planets. That said let's explore trends that are coming in and going out.

Focus on style: fireplace as a focal point. Oh the fierce debate over what to do with the space beside the fireplace. Also should we put the tv above the fireplace (the answer is no). What do we do with that space? While it it's never a one size fits all answer, I only have solutions today. Notes in the pictures! Happy decorating!

This morning I decided to play a little game called "dollar tree diy vs new". We are comparing the cost of dollar tree diy projects to buying the item new off the internet. Why? Because sometimes it frustrates me that people will spend just as much money to make an item as it would cost to buy the thing. If you love to craft and don't care about money then go for it, however, know that the hot glue versions of these items are not going to hold up over time.

Focus on style: comfort over content. This morning I am babysitting my self cleaning oven (making sure it doesn't catch on fire). There is a half put together puzzle at the end of my pretentious 9ft custom (Buddy built it) dining table. I can see that our dogs have strewn toys around, some with heads, mostly without stuffing and certainly not attractive. My mother's magnet collection is on my fridge (gasp). It's there to lend familiarity to her surroundings as she acclimates to living with us. In a world driven by AI photos, I felt this morning that it was important to mention that we should be choosing comfort over content. It's important to know what is content and what will enhance our lives. Those two are seldom the same. Let's take a look!

The Santa: in 1997 when my husband and I had our first Christmas together, I made a Santa for our tree. Since that year the Santa has been at the top of almost every tree. Last year that Santa took a dive off the top of our tree and was shattered. It was awful. That Santa was one of the few surviving pieces of our first Christmas. I was looking at a picture of him earlier this year and sort of out of the blue remembered where I bought his hands and head (Ben Franklin crafts). Then I got online and matched the mold using the photo. Sure enough people were selling the head and hands still in the package. So I built a new Santa with a taller cone. Here he is new Santa holding my grandparents first ornament. May he have a long life...

Our family Christmas has already happened. There are still bits of paper here and there. This morning I straightened up a little. It's not going to be perfect but this years holiday decor is full of ideas. People keep asking why we still go all out at Christmas, the kids are grown although most of them still make it to the family party. Maybe the true reason is that I love the idea of Holiday Magic. We still have young grandkids and I love the idea of them getting to open gifts in a place we lovingly decorated. I hope you find an idea you can use. Merry Christmas and Happy Decorating!

Merry Christmas!! I'm not done decorating. Heres where im at so far. Hopefully tomorrow will be the last day. I'm crimping my ribbon as I go and making festive bows. I think it's more fun than the droopy or flat ribbon. Notes on the pictures
