Joshua Chèo Gillespie (Born August 23rd, 1996) also known as Brotha Ase (AseEuei ShangoYe) is an upcoming African-American Poet, Musician, Producer, Artist, & Storyteller from Minneapolis (Northside),MN. His music, Storytelling, and artwork is a direct reflection of the internal and external spiritual journey faced by African-American people throughout the relics of our past seen through the lens

of a young upcoming Griot-Djembefola. His goal is to inspire introspective reflection to all listeners as they embark on their personal spiritual journey’s and unleash their inner eternal flames

MACC is welcoming back storyteller Brotha Ase to perform his piece, 'Data Point.'
Brotha Asè is an African-American North Minneapolis native brought up under the umbrella of the Oral Art of Storytelling. Witnessing his family elders' grand master Storytellers - Vusumuzi Zulu & Nothando Zulu on and off the stage his whole life - inspired him to carry on the tradition through spoken word, Drumming, and artistic expression. He works in community as a Spoken Word Teacher, Djembe Drum instructor, Art Teacher and many more.
He is the Music and Art Director for Urban Ventures, a local nonprofit organization in South Minneapolis, Storyteller for Black Storytellers Alliance (BSA) - started by his grandparents 33 years ago, A Board Member for the Story Arts of Board of Minnesota (SAM) and much, much more.
He believes our stories are like seeds from the divine tree of life, helping to guide us and grow us into divine trees of our own to help build and transform the village.
