Some more updates—first, the good news!
I’ve got a new base and some new colorways coming soon! This photo is a preview: the new base (it’s a light fi*****ng) in one of the new colors! I can’t wait to show you everything; I’ll post with more details once everything is 100% ready!

On to the bad news: I’m retiring some colorways; they’re still available to order for now until I run out of the dyes needed for them. Get ‘em while you still can (and they’re still on sale)! I have plans to replace or reformulate some of the colors, but they will be different from their current formula and not exact matches.

The sparkle sock and soft sock bases are also going away for now; I’ve still got some on hand but they’ll be on vacation once my stock is gone.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful, healthy 2022 so far!

I have been so busy the last few months with my full-time job (and successfully unionizing said job!) that yarn has been pushed to the back burner. However, I’ve got some new things lined up, and in the meantime, everything is on sale so I can clear out some of what I’ve already got on hand and make room for the new! Go take a look in the shop, and stock up on your faves!

A little something I've been working on--three new colors and a new base! I hope you love them as much as I do. Purple is my favorite color to dye, so I came up with three new shades of purple (L to R--top to bottom in last photo): Minx, Temptress, and Siren! They're shown here in the first photo on the new base: Super KidSilk Fluff, a lace-weight superkid mohair/mulberry silk blend. The superkid mohair is deliciously soft, and held in place by two plies of mulberry silk. It works up great on its own at a variety of gauges, or held double with another yarn to create a beautiful halo effect.
The new colors are now available in the shop as a dyed-to-order option, and the new base has been added as an option for all existing colorways.

The shop is back open, and I’ve got something new for y’all… sock sets! Socks are one of my favorite things to knit, especially in the summer.
I’ve dyed two new colors on our Soft Sock base with coordinating solid mini skeins for heels/toes.
About the colors: “Party On!” is a variegated green with speckles of fuchsia and black with a matching fuchsia mini skein.
“Just Beachin’” is a variegated beige/yellow with a few speckles of brown. It comes with a coordinating blue mini skein—it reminds me of a day at the beach!
These are available now in the shop, but there are a limited number available. When they’re gone they’re gone!

Happy May Day, workers of the world! I've been sitting on these colors for a while, but I figured today's the perfect day to officially announce them. These are Prolerot (red) and Nogonoma (black). I've only got one skein of each in the shop right now, but don't fret, there will be more, including dyed-to-order options once I'm done with the move. I just threw a couple more OOAK skeins up in the shop too. I hope y'all are enjoying your holiday, and remembering what it's about!

I enjoy doing most things late at night when it’s quiet, including dyeing. Got a batch of Bloodwine going right now while I think about how I want to set up my workspace in our new house and all the ideas I have for new stuff for y’all. So many possibilities...

Spock and I are here to remind you: this week is the last week to place any dyed-to-order orders! The month of May is going to be busy with packing and I won’t have the time/ability to dye anything to order. We’re moving the first week of June, and the dyed-to-order option will be available again once we’re all settled in. I’ve got lots of fun things planned for after the move, so stay tuned!

Ry wanted to knit with me! She likes to knit blankets for her stuffed animals. It’s been a while since she knit with me, so I gave her a quick recap on long-tail cast on. Her response: “calm down mom, I’m a knitting god.” She’s not usually that cocky; there’s some backstory here. I taught her to knit last year and she caught on so quickly, I was amazed. It just clicked. She does a much better job than I did when I started knitting at her age.

I had completely forgotten about this, but my friends reminded me that my grandma (the Myna of Dear Myna yarns) put knitting needles in Ry’s hands when she was about a month old to pass on her knitting wisdom. I like to think it worked. Or, if you look at the science rather than the lore: Ry has a few generations of knitting knowledge in her DNA and I think there’s some genetic memory at work.

Our house is full of boxes—we’re moving! To celebrate (and help me lighten my yarn load before moving) everything is on sale in the shop right now! Stock up on your favorites! I won’t be doing any dyeing to order for a while starting May 1 so I can focus all my time and energy on packing and moving, so now’s the time to place those orders!

It’s ! What’s the last project you finished? Mine is this cowl knit with Rios. The pattern is Spruce from the book Slow Knitting. This was only my second-ever brioche project, and it was a fun knit!

A non-yarn photo! I was just so excited about the weather today. 46 degrees here in Minnesota feels just delightful. This is the nice part of spring for me, where it’s warm enough to go without a jacket but my allergies haven’t started acting up yet. Soon I’ll be an itchy-eyed mess. 😂

Why Dear Myna?

“Myna” was the nickname given my grandma, Yvonne by one of her grandchildren. She was an expert knitter, and she instilled a love for knitting and all things yarn-related in me and countless others in the fiber arts community. After she passed away, I started dyeing yarn. As I was trying to come up with a name for my yarns, I remembered her singing “There’s a hole in the bucket, Dear Liza, Dear Liza” to me when I was a child. It popped into my head as “Dear Myna,” and the name was born. Myna has been gone since 2014, but I like to think she lives on through her family and through our fiber-y endeavors.
