For over forty years Architectural Antiques has taken a lot of satisfaction in knowing that each antique architectural element that passes through our store is on it’s way to a better place, an environment where it will be just as appreciated as the home or building it recently left. And for those who believe that a single antique architectural element has the ability to transform a room or building into something of beauty and harmony, Architectural Antiques is a place for you . . . We admit that it’s not a painting to be hung on a wall, but art it is. You’re surrounded by it every day in your home, your office or in whatever environment you spend time. It helps celebrate life and work, creates memories and romance, and edifies and inspires those around it! All it takes is a single piece of the past to magically convert sterile environments. This is the reason that some of the top designers in the country shop at our store.

We were recently asked to save lights from the historic “Dinkydome” building before they ended up in the dumpster. While the main portion of the chandelier was beyond repair, we were able to make a flush mount and several pendants using the parts that were left. Long before “Dinkytown” existed at the University of Minnesota, the Scandinavian Christian Unity Missionary Society was founded in 1910. This building was constructed in 1913 for the society and called the International Christian Bible College, founded by David E. Olson. After several name changes, the college moved to Rochester in 1972. From there it was home to a variety of businesses, including a book store and a food court. Today it has been remodeled into apartments. First photo of the building is just after it was constructed, second photo is from the 1930s.

If you’ve been to our store or followed us on social media, you’ve probably seen this goofy guy- Nic! After working here for just over 2 years, Nic is taking off for a new career as an airplane mechanic. We will miss having him at the store and helping customers. If you see him this weekend be sure to say hi and wish him a safe flight off to his new adventures!

Meet Owen! Owen is one of our newest employees and he’s been a great addition to the team. He is currently enrolled in college working toward a degree in anthropology. Eager to learn and happy to help with just about any task thrown at him, he’s been working here part time for 4 months. Another fun fact about Owen- he is Kate’s brother! Special shoutout to Owen for helping restore the massive Ford Parkway sconces, they required a lot of work. you can usually find Owen in the store putting the finishing touches on a buffet or helping with heavy lifting in and around the store.
