As a small business owner in the home decor and gift industry, it’s hard to live in the moment. Impossible, actually. No one talks about how we have to constantly be looking toward the next season. I order our Christmas merchandise in JANUARY! I’m ordering fall in the spring, spring and summer in the fall and planning my Christmas lineup in August. Sometimes I miss living in the season we’re actually in. I love fall. It’s always been my favorite season, and this year it has felt shorter than usual. Just when the weather actually starts to match the vibe, I find myself realizing it’s just about time to bring out the Christmas trees. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do, but sometimes, even just for a moment, I miss the days when I could just sit in the season we’re in and enjoy everything that the season brings. Porch pumpkins and fall mums (that will surely die quicker than I’d like), hot apple c***r on a crisp fall day, crunching leaves under my feet, making the kids’ Halloween costumes…all in the months that they belong in. Instead, I find myself wondering if mid-October is the best time to transition the shop to all things Christmas. Fall made its appearance in the shop in late August when the temps were in the 100’s and I was dreaming of a beach vacation. And here we are on October 5th, when in another life, I would be taking the kids to the pumpkin patch to find just the right one for carving, but in this life, I’m strategically planning my Christmas setup. I know. This post isn’t our usual content. I just needed to say it because it’s been weighing on me lately. Call me nostalgic, but I’ve been missing being a mom in the fall instead of a shop owner in the fall. Just when the trees and the weather finally start to align with the season, I’m going to pivot and start playing Christmas music. I’ve heard it time and time again over the last two months or so (yes, I said MONTHS). You want Christmas in October. And I hear you loud and clear. So…with ALL that having been said…get ready, because Christmas is coming to The Highland Pine Company on October 13th. We will start our setup after closing on Saturday, October 10th and we will continue through Monday the 12th. On the 13th, you can expect to see ALL the Christmas your heart desires. Calm down, my fellow fall lovers, we will have a designated fall area for a little while longer, but as for the majority of the store, expect our halls to be decked. The shop will be closed on Monday, October 12th for final touches (coffee shop will remain open). Join us on Tuesday the 13th for the beginning of our Christmas Open House week. Although I’m sad to bid fall farewell, I am excited for you to see all the beautiful Christmas items that will be making their way into the shop. Expect to see Christmas decor but also some amazing gift ideas. The gift selection will grow as we get closer to the season, but in the meantime, put on your Santa hats and get ready to decorate!
