Started with leather work in 2020 after needing sheaths for my hand made knives that i had forged, found shortly after getting first leather supplies needed, that leather work was more enjoyable and allowed for more artistic exp
ression. With new interest of leather growing, quickly started researching everything i could to learn more and how to create different items. first items i made were sheaths for my knives, they were far from perfect but worked. Not long after making first sheaths i started looking around at other daily items that i could make and use, quickly realized all of the different products that i used but didn't imagine making myself. My next projects consisted of wallets, belts, rifle slings and pistol holsters. After building a few items for myself/family/friends and gaining confidence in my ability to produce reliable products i decided that this wasn't just a side project hobby but was something that i wanted to continually do and learn more about. Due to the large amount of interest from family and friends in my ability to make EDC such as wallets and holsters i made first company WCC which stood for Weber Custom Carry. Had a lot of success with WCC and learned a ton about leather work and was given opportunity from alot of new customers to make new items that i had not done before. In the beginning of 2022 i had reliesed that i was not able to keep up with the amount of orders i had coming in while having all the responsibilities of working full time and having a family with small kids at home which lead me to slowly taking less and less orders so i could focus more at home and my day job. Even though i had slowed down from what i once had been doing , i never stopped with leather work and had to teach myself what was a real timeline for some of these projects i was taking on and not to put the pressure of completing a project come between myself and my family/ other responsibilities. During that time i was also able to learn to slow down and that taking more time on projects allowed for better quality items. By the spring of 2024 i had made the decision that i needed to rebrand my business into something that from the name said what i did and where i was from, after hearing from multiple people that they had searched for leather work in the area but were not able to find me due to the name not being specific enough. Being a proud Minnesotan i wanted to find a name that paid respect to this great state but also allowed me to voice what i did, after many weeks of writing out countless ideas i finally landed on Lake State Leather which i quickly started searching online to see if it was used/ connected to anyone else. after finding that it was original i started working on what the branding of the company would look like and with the help of my wife and her superior computer skills we finalized the brand/ logo that is used today.The new name has came with alot of positive feed back from the community and we are excited for everything to come! Have plans to expand my know leather knowledge and to explore new areas of it in possible saddle building and repair.
