This one was a full gut job — but the biggest transformation wasn’t the finishes. It was how the space worked.

The original peninsula interrupted the traffic pattern and left valuable square footage functioning mostly as a pass-through between the kitchen, garage and backyard. Replacing it with an extended island let us claim that space back and create a much more natural, circular flow through the room.

We also lifted the ceiling on the kitchen side, gaining roughly a foot and a half of vertical space while giving the kitchen a stronger architectural identity from the adjoining room. The beams were carried through to connect the spaces, and that new height gave us room for illuminated storage cubbies above the cabinetry and around the refrigerator.

Then came the layers: refinished floors, new cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, appliances, and a pantry the original kitchen never had.

The kitchen is prettier, yes — but more importantly, it now uses its square footage, height and traffic pattern intentionally.

That’s the part of a renovation I love most: finding what the house already has to give, and making it work harder.

I love seeing what isn’t — and what could be.

This old Facebook Marketplace hutch wasn’t looking for a makeover. It was looking for a new purpose. We separated the pieces, reimagined how they could function, and gave them a completely different life as our coffee bar.

That’s Heritage Sourcing by Nook Interiors.
Finding the piece everyone else scrolls past and seeing what it could become in your home.

Because sometimes the thing a room needs most already has a story. 🤎

Repetition creates rhythm. Rhythm creates calm balance.

It’s one of those design principles you may not consciously notice — but you definitely feel it.

The beams repeat overhead. The windows create rhythm down the wall. The carved panels echo one another, and those warm wood tones keep showing up through the trim, floor and furniture.

And yes, even the back of that chair is intentional. 😂
That curve breaks up all those strong straight lines while quietly echoing softer shapes elsewhere in the room.

That’s the fun part for me. A room can feel collected, layered and even a little unexpected without feeling chaotic.

Good design isn’t about making everything match. It’s about knowing what should repeat, what should interrupt it, and when to stop.

That rhythm is often what we experience as calm — even when we have no idea why the room just feels right.

Good design doesn’t require hiding every practical detail. The vent can stay. The piles of life on the counter can stay. The dog bowls, The sliders protecting the floor beneath an antique secretary can all stay.

Those things don’t diminish a space when the larger decisions are right — flow, light, undertones, proportion, texture, history, and the way materials communicate with one another.

I’m less interested in creating a perfect photograph than I am in creating a home with a distinct feeling: warmth, comfort, energy, stillness — whatever you want your home to carry.

HERITAGE SOURCING

Not just antiques. Not just shopping.

Heritage Sourcing is about finding pieces with history that can solve real design problems in unexpected ways.

This vintage hutch became storage, a vanity, a mirror surround, and the architectural anchor this bathroom was missing — all while working with the existing tile and wood ceiling instead of replacing everything around it.

It’s the kind of piece that makes a room feel collected, grounded, and a little impossible to replicate.

Heritage Sourcing can stand on its own after a Nook Design Map or be added to a Gathered Room when you want help finding the pieces that give the plan its soul.

A little story behind this room… 🤍

Almost nothing here was bought specifically for this space.

The bed was my son’s and was reimagined with a new finish. The desk and wonderfully quirky lamp are vintage-market finds I’ve had for years.

And the “built-in”? It isn’t actually a built-in. An existing piece was reworked and integrated into the room to feel like it had always been there — for about $90 in additional materials.

The rug was a $90 find. The mural was also $90. Apparently this room had a number. 😂

It’s not finished yet — ceiling beams and a few other details are still to come — but I love what it already says about Nook.

Sometimes we keep what has history. Sometimes we find something old and give it a new purpose. And sometimes the right answer is investing in something beautifully made just for the space.

It’s not about spending less or spending more. It’s knowing where the money matters.

That’s the kind of home I love creating. 🤍

Every home already has a story. Sometimes it’s simply waiting to be uncovered.

When I first walked this property, I wasn’t thinking about paint colors. I was studying proportions, light, the surrounding landscape, and the character that already existed beneath a palette that treated every surface the same.

The goal wasn’t to make the home darker or lighter.

It was to reveal the architecture.

By introducing contrast between the home’s different planes, emphasizing the vertical entry, and grounding the lower level, the home begins to read differently. The architecture feels taller, more intentional, and more connected to its Colorado setting.

The palette wasn’t selected to stand out from the landscape—it was chosen to belong to it. Stone, mature trees, mountain light, and architecture all become part of the same conversation.

What you’re seeing here is the design vision. The project is currently underway, and I can’t wait to share the finished photographs once it’s complete.

I’m also incredibly grateful to be partnering with Veritas Painting Co. on this project. Beautiful design deserves exceptional ex*****on, and their craftsmanship, communication, and attention to detail have made them a wonderful partner throughout the process. I’m excited to see this vision become reality together.

I love a good before and after—but the best transformations are about more than how a room looks. They change how a home lives.

This dining room is still unfolding, but the design is already deepening—and the difference in how the space functions is significant.

Like many builder-grade dining rooms with two entrances, this room was divided by its traffic pattern. The reverse tray ceiling and centered chandelier suggested that the table had to sit directly in the middle, interrupting the natural walkway and limiting both seating and connection.

At Nook Interiors, we looked beyond the room’s assigned “center” and found the center that actually made sense for the family.

By shifting the dining zone, we created a clear path through the room, dramatically increased the seating, and gave the space a true gathering point. Now it feels designed for lingering: family dinners, afternoon tea, poker nights, homework, celebrations, and the everyday conversations that become part of a home’s story.

We are layering in repurposed furniture, antique chairs, custom built-ins, and a meaningful display for heritage china passed down through the family. Every element is helping the room feel collected rather than decorated—deeply personal, functional, and reflective of the people who live here.

This room will also become the launching point for the rest of the main floor, giving us a palette of colors, textiles, shapes, and textures to carry throughout the home.

That is what Nook does: we uncover the potential hiding in everyday homes and thoughtfully interpret it for the families who live there.

This project is not finished yet—but it has already found its heart.
