The idea for Hilos began when I was working as a photographer for Foundation EnVia, a locally based micro-finance organization that provides interest-free loans to women entrepreneurs in six small communities outside Oaxaca City. My job was to visit these women in their homes and photograph them with their new loan purchases. Often this involved traveling down long and dusty roads, far off the bea
ten tourist track in order to find them. I saw that many of these women were struggling to make many sales. Not because of the quality or the types of products they made. In fact, the things they were making were amazing… They simply lacked access to markets. Hilos was created as a way to connect conscious consumers with an eye for unique homemade goods to talented artisans in Oaxaca, Mexico. We offer a wide variety of items, including scarves, bags, rugs, ponchos, pottery, baskets, and more! In addition, Hilos is committed to giving back to the communities we work in. So far, we have donated over $1,500 to education initiatives in Oaxaca, Mexico. Follow us on Instagram to keep up to date with offers, events, promotions, and more.
