Did you know glass block can be used to create beautiful curved walls?

Normal House – Weck Nubio – 2006

This installation started out simple… until the final window.

Because the concrete stairs had been added after the house was built, the window had to be installed from inside the home. The problem? There wasn’t enough room for Chris to get his hand between the glass block window and the stairs to mortar it properly.

So he improvised.

Using a leftover piece of pine parting stop and some duct tape, Chris created a custom extension tool with his pointer finger attached to the end so he could pack the mortar into the tight space. He even added a rag to the stick afterward to clean it up.

The finished windows measured 32x14, though only 20 inches are visible from outside — the other 12 inches sit below grade.

50 years later, these are the kinds of stories that define Quality Glass Block: hard work, creativity, and getting the job done right no matter the challenge.
