Crafting, Painting, and Signs. Oh my!

I’m writing this 3 weeks after opening the doors to Yellow Brick. To say I’ve been blown away by the response from all of you would be an understatement. It has been a whirlwind for sure! I just quickly wanted to tell you a little about myself. My name is Monica, I’m a 33 year old, divorced, mother of two crazy little 8 and 6 year old boys, Jake and Nate. I grew up in Mount Ephraim and graduated from Audubon High in 2003 (yes the same year as Joe Flacco!) After high school, I graduated from PB Cosmetology School. I married my high school sweetheart at age 20, and that should explain perfectly why earlier you learned I was a divorcee! lol Anyways, I have always loved all things crafting. I started Scrap booking when I was in 7th grade, long before the days of Pinterest and when DIY and crafting totally wasn’t considered a cool thing. I began my small at home craft business, Yellow Brick Crafts, about 5 years ago. No, my shop has nothing to do with the Wizard of Oz, but it is certainly the inspiration behind the name! I have loved singing and musicals since I was 2 years old. The Wizard of Oz was and still is my favorite movie! I love my products to be personalized and so my motto is “there’s no place like YOUR home.” I know, super cheesy but it works! The first thing I ever made and sold was glass ornaments that had photographs inside them. I priced them right, made sure they were perfect, packaged them up really nicely and everyone couldn’t get enough. From there on I realized that was the key to my little businesses success and I still stand by it today. I keep my prices fair, so that everyone gets a chance to enjoy. I am a perfectionist and take great pride in my work, so only the best products that I know work and last are used. And I love personalizing all of my work so that it is original and something that you could never buy in a store.

Fast forward to today. I fell in love with painting wooden signs. And I absolutely love the concept of getting people together for a fun night out for any reason at all, and letting YOU get to be the artist. There’s just something so fulfilling when someone sees a sign in your home and asks where it’s from and you get to reply with, “I made that!” And that is how and why I wanted to bring a small, hometown feel studio right to the town I fell in love with so many years ago. Being a Mom of two boys, I can tell you that things like kids clubs, birthday parties and kid friendly events are very important to me and will certainly be a big part of Yellow Brick. But of course, we all still need some kid free time in our lives also, so that too is available here as well!

So there you have it. A summary of my 33 years on Earth and how I got to be the owner of this DIY shop! Please bare with me as I get the website up and running, get the calendar of events moving and continue this wild ride of single mom/ business owner I have embarked on! And truly from the bottom of my heart, thank you to my family, friends and the people of this amazing town for being so incredibly supportive!!

And don’t forget...”Don’t just pin it! Make it!”
