🤫 I’ve been gatekeeping this secret about paint…..

Picking up paint from two different stores? Please don’t. 😱

Most people aren’t aware that even if it’s the exact same color you can experience different wicking rates (even from same can), tint machine calibrations, paint bases, and batch variations which can leave you with mismatched touch-ups and that dreaded “halo” effect.

✨ Pro tip: Always have your paint mixed at the same store whenever possible. If you’re using multiple gallons, ask your painter to box the paint (mix all the gallons together) before painting for the most consistent finish.

These are the kinds of details of why an experienced designer doesn’t just select paint colors—we create detailed paint schedules, coordinate with subcontractors, and think through the details that help you execute your vision for a project.

Every project begins with a spark, but the finished space is always guided by our client’s vision. Our role as designers is to listen, refine, and translate those ideas into detailed plans, specifications, and selections that give our skilled subcontractors the roadmap they need to bring that vision to life.

This bathroom is a perfect example—an elegant arched niche, shimmering glass tile, and marble-inspired surfaces coming together to create a space that’s both timeless and uniquely personal.

Design is more than choosing beautiful materials. It’s transforming the clients vision into reality, one document and drawing at a time.

There’s something special about taking a family heirloom—worn, loved, and full of history—and giving it new life. Whether it’s refinishing, painting, or reupholstering, these pieces become even more meaningful when restored instead of replaced.

To me, a home feels far more interesting when it’s layered with an eclectic, well-traveled, and thoughtfully acquired collection rather than everything being brand new. Maybe it’s because I grew up watching my mom import antiques, or maybe it’s because every heirloom carries a story you simply can’t recreate.

The best part? Great design is never about what I would choose—it’s about creating a home that feels like my client. Their story, their style, their legacy.

Part of my favorite thing about design is the challenge. What’s supposed to be a straight forward install doesn’t always go as planned—and that’s where creativity steps in.

We ran into one of those moments on my Seabrook island project. The original plan was to keep the existing pine floors, but the stain just wouldn’t take the way my client hoped or wanted. The client loved the new floors in the nearby bedrooms so much that she decided to replace them altogether… but there was one big issue: the waterfall edge had already been installed.

That left us with two options—remove the countertop edges (and risk potential damage) or find a creative way to work with the gap.

So, we found a solution.

We’ve used bullnose trim before to elevate countertop edges and achieve that thick, mitered look we all love… so why not use it as a liner to cover the gap? And it worked beautifully.

Huge gratitude to my client—and especially the installer —for trusting the process and being open to trying something unexpected. Sometimes, those “happy accidents” turn into the best outcomes. 🙌🏻
