Creatively Glass & more

Creatively Glass & more stained glass, custom orders, arts, crafts, gifts, supplies Our Story: Creatively! Glass & more, LLC began in Mt. Pleasant as the Stained Glass Workshop.

We offer glass art supplies and services, including: custom stained glass work, stained glass repair, kiln rental, and glass art classes. It has transitioned through 2 previous owners, a change of location and in November of 2016 a third owner and a name change. We still offer most of the same supplies and services for stained glass artists in Central and Northern Michigan. This includes classes,

repairs, and custom orders. A wide variety of stained glass finished pieces available for almost any gift occasion. We are happy to work with customers to create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that are suitable to become treasured keepsakes for generations to come. Class participants learn a new hobby, the value of stained glass creations, meet new friends or do something fun with friends or family, and take home a piece they have made themselves. The “& more” part of the name includes other finished arts & crafts from the new owner’s family: crochet by Jean, hand-carved walking staffs and nature photography by John, with the possibility for ceramics, jewelry, paper-art, and more. New owner's story - Jean: I have always been creative, learned to crochet, sew, and do needlework before I was 10 years old. Somewhere in the back of my mind, having a business to sell crafts had been a secret dream. I went to college for a Bachelor of Science degree in fisheries and wildlife management; married and raised a family; worked part-time here and there; volunteered in Girl Scouts, 4-H and my church. As my kids neared their high school graduation, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do next so I went to MMCC and earned an associate degree. Job interviews were not panning out when I learned that The Stained Glass Workshop was for sale in the summer of 2016. Although I had not done stained glass work before, I had watched my kids do glass projects for 4-H and had thought it would be fun to learn. With the full support of my husband, John, I bought the store and have learned so much in the first year. I am delighted to continue learning new glass skills. Its fun to meet the customers and hear their stories, to help them pick out glass for custom orders and see how happy they are when it is finished. It is also very rewarding to make a stained glass piece and see it sell. Although I am fairly new to stained glass, I enjoy teaching beginner classes and seeing others learn new skills and the value of stained glass work.

Last Friday I bought almost 1000 pounds of old glass - including some Spectrum glass. This week I'm working on cleaning and pricing it - most of it will be added to my discount bins.

The large brass filigree butterfly inspired this project, everything else is scrap glass & materials I had in the workshop. No pattern, I just laid out a 9" square and fit the glass pieces into, cut a few pieces and did some grinding to get things to fit. The confetti glass reminds me of a flower garden. This will soon be available for sale in store only.

One more square, this is probably the last one for a little bit. I need to work on some bigger projects.
There is nothing worse in stained glass work than getting a project finished, buffing off the polish, and hearing a tell-tale little "pop." Yep, a small crack behind one of the filigree pieces. 😐 I decided to put a little glue on the back because it's not noticeable from the front.

From my initial design to finally hanging it in the window, this project has been taking up the end of my workbench for almost a year. I am grateful for my oldest daughter's input on the design (she has a degree in interior design) and then tweaking it once I started cutting glass. This etched bevel design has been popular for wedding or anniversary gifts, but this is the first time I've used the large rectangle bevel. With the iridized glass, this piece is pretty whether it's on the wall or in the window. Now available for purchase in store only.

My square frames got put on hold so I could work on some custom orders and larger panels, but I got back to them and finished these 4 up this week. They are now available to purchase in store only. Someone recently and asked if I had a pattern for them. No, I don't. The reason I've been making them is to feature pretty beads or other adornments as well as use up random filigree, came, and wire bits. No two are the same and most likely will not be replicated here after they've sold.

Glass artists, PLEASE be sure you clean your grinders! This Inland WizCG grinder was given to the store after the passing of a glass artists. I've gotten the bit to move slightly, but I can't remove it from the shift... yet. I wanted to remove the bit to clean the tray, then plug the grinder in and test it. But I guess I'll have to clean the tray first.

In addition to bottles, I fritcast some things for the store in 1 load with my customer's item. The star is icicle clear frit with dabs of gold mica powder added in for some extra sparkle. The heart ❤ is simply red frit.

My husband brought me this pretty purple gin bottle. 💜 It's painted so I can't do anything with it in the kiln, the color will burn off. Instead I cut the bottom off and put a coiled copper votive holder inside I so that it can hang.

I had a customer rent my kiln and a mold, but I only have 1 mold & they wanted 5 of the same item, so I've been adding a few bottles into the kiln with each of the customer's items.

I'm getting closer to finishing these squares that I cut out before Christmas. Of course, with a certain fabric & craft store going out of business, I bought a large handful of more beads and have a bunch more ideas for this sort of thing. However, now that I've completed inventory for another year, I need to catch up on custom orders and repairs, then work on some larger panels to display in the windows.

My unexpected project for today... Well, I did order 4 rack packs from but I was hoping they would arrive Friday. A day early is good though. I'll be getting these added to my sale crates throughout the day. If anyone comes in today to purchase any of these, it will save me a little time. The reds will go quickly.
