This 103 year old Aladdin #8 brass mantel oil lamp has never been converted. It was only made 1919-1920 when it was discontinued because of it's high cost to manufacture as the highly decorated solid brass fount was produced by Plume & Atwood. Aladdin #9 went back to simplicity and the smooth brass lamp styling of their past which were less expensive to produce. All are center draft lamps which drew through the base and used a mantel creating the very bright lighting which Aladdin patented. These lamps can be converted to electric, but the collector demand is for original oil. The Amish and others still use these because for the amount of bright white light they produce without electricity.
